Except if it is a mental issue, that isn't a question of "compete." That's a serious medical condition that he likely has little control over. So you constantly going after him for "the Freddie flu" is in poor taste, to say the least.

My question would be, if it is a mental problem, why has he not reached out to the NHLPA about it (that we're aware of)?
Maybe because we never pushed the issue and gave him the time he needed?

I do think we need to explore all options and probably consider finding another good goalie for insurance. But many thought Freddie wouldn't make it back last season and he did. I imagine he will this season as well and it makes things difficult to juggle.

I mean, day to day ended up being effectively a season ending injury if the current timeline to recover from surgery is correct
If the current timeline is to be believed he will be back with over 30% of the regular season left.

That’s is almost as far off from effectively season ending as the original diagnosis. Whether you buy the new timeline is a different discussion all together.

Hmmm now that I am checking again that should be early Feb or March, I think my math didn't math well

even if he makes it back I dont want him in the playoffs unless hes backing up.

I'm done with his failures.
I understand your POV and also am not a current fan of Freddie.

To be fair, he did play superbly in the playoffs/series against Cats 2 years ago. His absence due to blood clots LY perhaps didn’t give him enough time to be totally ready (mentally and physically) too.

Hopefully this knee surgery fixed whatever has caused him to have issues. Otherwise, sign me up for a trade for a younger/high quality goalie versus getting an oft injured retread.

Rod was vocal about not liking a platoon of goalies, and that led to the team signing Andersen and him playing 52 games his first year here. Him breaking down, you have to think at least partially because of that season, has to have the front office and especially Rod reconsidering, no? You'd hope.

For context, Andersen started 51 games his first season year, and the next 2 and a half he started 53.
