Frattin's Play Since Returning

cause players have their droughts
doesnt make them any less or more good of a player, sry...

Frattin is still the guy you know that scored many goals

When JvR - Bozak - Kessel no longer draws the top defensive pairings, and THEN they're still not scoring, THAT is when you can start worrying.

As it stands, they're playing the top opposition, which is leaving Kadri and Lupul in there against 2nd or 3rd pairings. Which they are just devouring like starving lions on fat Christians.

As for Frattin, he is obviously not 100%. He will probably get a demotion to the AHL when MacArthur comes back.

tbh at this point there is absolutely no chemistry going on in the other lines, so it couldn't hurt to change it up. I'd try:

god line
JVR - Grabovski - Kessel
Mac - Bozak - Frattin
Mclaren - Mcclement - Orr
Komarov

I use to be very opposed to trying Grabo with Kessel again, but at this point it couldn't hurt. Neither are producing, and not to mention we just resigned grabo to a large contract. I don't think it could be worse than how it currently is.

Plus it would allow us to have a much better shutdown type line with Bozak which he would thrive in.

Frattins recent play is obviously a result of the knee surgery and lineup changes. You could instantly tell in his first 2 games back, he just lacked that same speed and jump in his step and wasn't winning the foot battles. Maybe he came back a couple games too early and had a tender go of it. But he's been more noticeable the last two games in my eyes, still following through with his checks and hard on the back check/forcheck.
Hopefully he can pick it up on the scoreboard and bring some more confidence into the playoffs.

Time for JVR to move down a few lines.

Frattin Bozak Kessel
Lupul Kadri Kulemin
JVR Grabovski McClement
McLaren Komarov Orr

JVR isn't playing up to his potential so switching Frattin and JVR makes sense, hopefully JVR can regain his confidence in a 3rd line role.

Frattin has been stirring lately and needs better mates to start scoring.

I don't like how everyone here is capping him as a 3rd liner/fringe 2nd liner. He will be a solid 2nd line player, he needs the right centre to play with though.

Grabo is a black hole who has completely killed his linemates' production this season.

He has looked invisible and just goes to show you cant rush a injury in the NHL he has looked lost , and his shot selection also lacks the effort he had when he was on that streak

Well for one, don't listen to this guy.

He has not looked invisible at all. I actually think that the past couple of games he has had a lot of jump in his step, and has been exhibiting a lot of effort that has resulted in a strong forecheck and has had a few very hard shots on net. However, like others have said Matt Frattin is pretty much a pure sniper. He works best with a puck distributor on his line. Contrary to what the herd-mentality is currently spewing, Mikhail Grabovski has actually been making some pretty good passes the past few games, but it requires an element of puck luck and timing to bury those chances. I think adding Clarke MacArthur on the 3rd line will help bring an element of playmaking that the Grabovski-Frattin combo is sorely lacking.

I am hoping we see this roster in the very foreseeable future:

JVR-Bozak-Kessel
Kulemin-Kadri-Lupul
MacArthur-Grabovski-Frattin
Komarov-McClement-Enforcer

Perfection

I've always liked Frattin but he was never going to be a point per game player or close to it really. His ceiling is a physical, 60 point 2nd line winger IMO.

Other than the Kadri line, he may have been our best forward.

He has played well the last few games.....and he will not be sent back the AHL as a poster on here suggested when Mac gets back.

What are you talking about Kessel is top 20 in NHL scoring and has 4 points in 3 games.

Kessel is 16th in the league in scoring...how is he not producing?

You know he was shooting over 50% before his injury, right? That's pretty hard to maintain.

Is he as effective as he could be? Is he getting help from either of his line mates? No, that was the point I was trying to make.

I'm in no way a Kessel basher, far from it.

Frattin is a finisher, not a set up guy. It should be no surprise that he's not producing when you put him on lines with guys who don't have the set up mentality.

Because of this, Frattin needs to go park himself on the blue ice and wait for the garbage goals to come... but it doesn't look like he's figured that out yet.

He's playing fine even though he's lost a bit of a step after surgery. I expect him to bounce back next season, when he's 100% again.

Just curious, who here thought he was going to be a PPG player?

He is still getting scoring chances but he is seeing regression. He was not going to continue having a 40% shooting percentage or whatever crazy number he had. Every goal scorers have slumps, he'll be fine. It isn't like he is a big point producer either. He is a third liner at the moment and that's what the expectations should be.

That's what I was thinking bro, who EVER posited a 80 point player? I can see Frattin being a 25 goal, second line player, who can play on the PP.

Look at every player who's gone from playing with Grabo to Naz or vice-versa this season and you see the same thing. Not saying Frattin isn't a good player, he definatlly is and has a future in this league. I wouldn't be too upset if we moved him for some defensive help and resigned Mac though. If our third line center is Grabo then we need someone else on that line who can create, Frattin is great if he has someone setting him up (which Grabo can't do). At this point I think Frattin has more value as an asset then he does on the ice IMO.

Send him an e-mail and tell him. :)
