Another weird idea I'm trying in terms of player development. I recently got the 3rd, 5th, and 7th pick in the second entry draft. Wanted to pick a D because I'm loaded up on playmakers already and didn't see a fit for Lafreniere. Unfortunately the D I targeted went 2nd and I took Lafreniere third.
I didn't want another playmaker so I did an experiment with him and Lucas Raymond, picked seventh. Raymond's really fast and skilled but has crap physical and defense skills. I knew this from a previous dynasty. Lafreniere has killer offensive stats but bad balance/strength/defense at times, depends on the dynasty.
I changed Lafreniere's player type to sniper and he developed really well. Solid strength/balance stats and a really wicked shot, all shooting stats around 92 after two years. He's at 90 overall after two years with elite high potential.
Lucas Raymond's not doing as well after I changed his player type to two way forward. He grew from 75 to 77 and then to 79 now two years later. I do notice that his balance and strength are higher than I remember. His balance went from 67 to now 73, but still a long way to go.
I think one thing missing in NHl is the ability to fine-tune and target training. I remember one of the old games let you train defense, offense, or athleticism and it was crazy what you could do.
