Fragility

Knoblock complains he’s not getting any scoring outside of 97 and 29.

Keeps Connor Brown who hasn’t scored in 30 games and is useless.

Sits Jeff Skinner who scores, for an AHL player.

Proceeds to wax poetic about said NHLer.

Will give him maybe 8 minutes tonight

Sorry if that rubs you the wrong way Mrs Knoblock.
Sorry you're such a child about sports

Maybe he's saving himself for the playoffs, I sure hope that's the issue with several of them.
What I don't get is Perry, Podkolzin, Brown, Kapanen, and Janmark all could easily be off this Oiler roster any day with a simple waiver placement.

You should at the very least see these guys doing something positive every game. I'm not expecting our bottom 6 to be one of the more offensive bottom 6's in the league, but I do expect them to be given effort on a nightly basis.

I mean the whole team is playing bad, but there are a lot of guys that are UFA's or close to retirement. You'd think you'd see guys trying for a contract or to extend their career.

At least we get to see Kemp and Jones play.. I guess. Hopefully Jones is a heat seeking missile that hits everything in sight despite Knob being against it.

Knoblauch hasn’t appeared to be big on accountability all season. Players haven’t been benched, sat out shifts, held out really at all, in his roster and ice time
decision making.

To me this is just more evidence that the players also recognize that accountability isn’t a thing here neither and they aren’t being reminded by the coach’s actions. Nobody is accountable, just floating through.

Like you say though, pretty shortsighted for guys doing this, in that it will have financial ramifications for some, on their futures.

Why dot they try Henrique on Draisaitl’s wing?

Problem is they don't have anyone else in the bottom 6 that can play 3C. You could move RNH there, but shuffling the two of them between the top and bottom 6 doesn't change much.

This is where Frederic should help. BOS often did use him as a centre, which means you can move Henrique up and slide a weaker link like Podz down.

Kemp is in the AHL

They rarely used Frederic as center. He has taken honestly few faceoffs for most of his career. He was averaging under 100 faceoffs a year until last year where he took 300 and 200 this year. He has had abysmal faceoff stats. For comparison Henrique has taken 700 this year and Frederic hasn’t even had 700 over the last 3 seasons.
He doesn’t work well at center, his game is much better on the wing.

Also keeps Janmark in the line up who has *checks notes* 2 goals this year

Good contribution to the thread!

Maybe it's related to their play lately, but wtf is up with the health of this team lately? A bunch of the guys looked ill before the break, but that was 3 weeks ago now. Is a bout of plague working its way through the locker room.

Good thing MTL moneyline looks good tonight lol. Only saving grace.

If I didn't have a self imposed prohibition about betting against the Oilers I would be absolutely hammering that tonight.

Odds makers don't know that we have refused to show up with any kind of acceptable effort against the Canadiens gong back years. That's before we even talk about the current performance of the team.

Bump, since their isn't a better thread I could see to discuss coaching.

The team needs a shake up. I don't think Frederic and Kane getting inserted is it. I'm not on the "fire Knob" train quite yet, but man, it's really getting to the point where I wonder how much he was carried by otherworldly seasons/playoffs from a select few and not so much his coaching. He is having as bad a season as any player, in my eyes.

Needs to quit stacking McDrai. It deflates the rest of the team and destroys our depth. Few minutes left? Sure. Midway through the 2nd? Hold off and get other guys involved.

He needs to hold guys accountable. Bouchard, Nuge, McDavid, Arvidsson and Ekholm are all guys who had stretches of play that would get Jeff Skinner scratched for life. Understandably, some of them have more leeway than Skinner, but they didn't lose a shift. Wake your "fragile" team up by enforcing a system of accountability for all, so even the Captain knows he needs to wake up soon here if we want any chance in the playoffs. Shit rolls down hill, so start at the top when the team is looking like trash.

I do wonder, if this recent poor play continues; could we hire Quenneville as an Assistant? Gotta think Q would be happy to get in with a contending team after his time off, with his old buddy Bowman. Maybe he accepts the lesser role, seeing that the job is his if Knob fails. Would be a wake up call for all, Knob that he needs to figure this out, and maybe the team responds like they have to coaching changes in the past. Gives us one more champion who has seen it all behind the bench and in the room, and more recently than Coffey, which can't hurt.

Does it deflate the rest of the team? I think when you split them it makes everyone else play like shit and defer. There are pros and cons to each scenario, but destroying our depth is an extreme take.

Right now what is destroying our team is Mcdavid dragging down whatever line he is on unless he is playing with Leon. Mcdavid's bad play combined with Nuge and his regression has made the first line utterly useless.

What's wrong with our team is we can't score because we don't have good enough wingers to split Mcdrai. Play them together at least we can tilt the ice and get some goals.

So, people were setting their hair on fire when they hired Bowman, and now you're suggesting they hire his partner in crime. That will look real good.:D

I think it does. Years of "depth scoring" issues, leads me to believe that. Was every winger here bad, or is there something in how the team utilizes them that causes their play to fall off here? It's why I think a guy like Kane did well here. Put him with anyone and he's gonna go out there with the attitude that he is going to put the puck in the net.

I get where your coming from though, our wingers could definitely be better. And frankly, we don't go anywhere if McDavid doesn't pull it together, agreed.

I just think having them split up can lead to a more consistent attack. With them together, teams just need to hold on for 1 minute out of every 3 and wait for their shift to be done then nothing happens. At least apart, they can't just stack their best defensive lineup against McDrai and wait for them to get off the ice. Even with Davo slumping, he still creates, there needs to be some combination of wingers that can help that line capitalize. Drai can do it on his own, even though he shouldn't have to.

Also, I feel like they are both worse defensively when together.
