In fairness I've heard an awful lot of obnoxious chest-thumping from Canadians too (not on HFBoards because I don't go to the main boards, but just generally out in public). Lots of Canadians have struck me as petty and insecure to the point that it was turning me off of this tournament. Maybe that's the downside of these national team games in the modern milieu?

Honestly one crazy old man has made this get to this point, if he wasn't around i bet this wouldn't have near the animosity that it does.

Pick any sport any team or any subject you get the same thing.

Kyle Connor is healthy scratch?

Why is the best American goal scorer and tied with Eichel in points as leading scorer of an USA player not play
in a winner takes all game when its going to probably be a close game and you need a Kyle Connor game breaking speed to might win it?

Is he really that not good in this tournament?

If you take the teams in the premier league for example they start their season in late august early September and play until May and they have 38 regular season games so one per week on average or kind of 4 to five times a month played mostly on the weekend. Then for the best teams they get to play champions league which they divide into the league phase, then the knock out phase. You play 8 league games then you move to the knockout phase where you might get another 9 games if you go to the final. This league plays from September to May as well and the games usually happen mid week. Then there is the league Cup that they use to call the FA Cup. That might give you another 5 to 8 matches.

Add everything up and on most seasons good teams might play 50-55 times.

The entire key about why they can juggle multiple competitions is they don’t whore themselves out to an 82 game regular season schedule like we do in Hockey.

Football is great because the Big clubs get a crack at winning three separate cups and they are all prestigious. Even the smaller clubs get to compete in for two cups.

A smaller schedule works for stadium sports. The 82 game schedule in the NHL is needed for the revenues, unfortunately

I think one of the reasons the multiple in-season tournaments work so well in football is because they give fans hope of winning something, even if their team is down the table. The lack of playoffs means that most teams are out of the running relatively early in the season

That said, a single elimination tournament involving, say, 8 NHL teams, 2 from the SEL, two from Liga, and 4 from the KHL (once everything gets straightened out over there) would be cool

Just reading the Twitter comment section from that post tells me that society is doomed. Twitter is just a cesspool now.

Bummer that Connor is a scratch. Hoping for a 1-0 Canada win with Helle playing lights out in net.

Mike Sullivan is a dipshit coach that clearly doesn’t know how to utilize Connor. I’m not saying Connor has been great, but there’s been no chance given to build chemistry as he’s been moved all around the lineup with almost no leash.

I feel USA is going to win tonight but hopefully I am wrong and that team struggles to score with a talent like Connor sitting in the press box.
