Man, the days of having the likes of Roy, Brodeur, Belfour, Joseph, Giguere, Luongo, Fleury, Ward, and Price to choose from seems like distant memories.
Crazy how they can go from an embarrassment of riches between the pipes to almost nothing.

There you go. Can you imagine the reaction of the Russians winning a tournament on North American soil, anthem playiing. Putin would shed a tear. They probably have the best goalies that could play in this tourney, solid defense, and some serious snipers, but why can't Russians play center anymore? Namestnikov is essentially American so he doesn't count.

Well this is a league that stops hockey for a week for a worse than beer league scrimmage in the middle of the season every f***ing year and there is zero chance this will be worse than that embarrassment.
There is a chance of this being a hockey game where players “A” want to be there and “B” might even try to win.

Wasn't justified, and he didn't make it because they're building a team rather than 13 all star forwards and there are better players than him at the role he plays. If he was even average at defending he'd be there.

Honestly Scheifele not making Canada is probably a good thing , he can rest and hopefully heal up whatever injury he's dealing with.

McDavid-MacKinnon sounds absolutely unstoppable because both are such dynamic, unique players that are a force every time they are on the ice. It's hard enough to stop one of them, never mind when they would actually be playing together. That could be something special.
I don't think that the goaltending issue is as large as people seem to be making it out to be.
For example, Adin Hill is averaging above a .930 save percentage in his playoff experience (which a high pressure situation like this would be most equivalent to). He had better stats than Bobrovsky did in the year Vegas won against Florida in the Finals, the same year that Bobrovsky was the sole reason the Panthers won on many nights. The guy can lock it in when it matters.
We all know that Binnington can do that too but he is also a moody lil B (#relatable) so who really knows there.
Montembeault, while obviously less experienced, posted some really impressive numbers at the World Championship so he seems like he could be a pretty solid 3rd stringer too. I'm sure he would benefit from not getting absolutely shelled night in and night out like he is in Montréal.

100% agree on that point. The ONLY positive thing I can say about the all star charade is nobody is getting hurt unless they fall off their bar stool.

It’s really a numbers game. Scheifele is a good offensive player but he isn’t cracking that centre line up so you’d have to play Mark out of position and those RW’s are all top RW’s and better defensive players. I don’t look at this as a snubbing this is an excellent Centre and right wing group.
Scheifele needs the time to get healthy anyways.
Yeah, maybe he could have made it over Travis but he doesn't play a good enough defensive game for a depth role. His injury likely was also taken into consideration.

Yea I thought about that too. I think the reality is Konecny is a natural right winger, leads his team in scoring over the past few seasons, has a bite to his game, all which would allow him to slot in as a highly skilled role player on this team. Canada is going to be overflowing with skilled scoring talent. They are going to have 3 elite first lines they rotate. I think they will want to construct a change up line that has some bite with skill, pieces like Bennet, Cirelli, Point, Konecny etc.

Biggest snub - NO RUSSIAN TEAM. To me, makes this tournament irrelevant as not the best in the world represented at all. Don't remember USA beign excluded from Olympics, etc when they invaded Iraq, Afghanistan, etc....
Personally, I would have taken Lowry over Scheifele. There are enough scorers on this team, someone like Lowry would have added a much needed element to the team in the late goings, penalty kill, etc roles.

Looking at Canada's roster and Scheifele not on the team is ridiculous. I know Morrissey is on it, but if scheifele played in any other market, he'd be on it.

Hate to say it because he's a Jet, but Scheifele shouldn't be on Canada. He was most likely not going to be a top 6 on the team, which means he was going to have to play a more defensive role. And yes, Chef has improved his defensive game, but checking is not what he's good at. There are better players for that role.
