Sweden wasnt Finland. They have dangerous forwards, good goaltending and maybe the best dcore in the tourney. The amount of nitpicking against players is weaksauce.

In reality:
The top 3 lines were pretty good and the 4th had its issues. Konecny might have still been feeling the effects of his ailment though.
We win this in regulation is Binnington doesnt give up a softie but he redeemed himself in overtime. He's been in a ton of big games and earned another start.
Mac was fine to take those shots. On the one with McDavid he was basically all alone. Much like McDavid, his finishing was off. Both will rebound against the US.
Marner was good 5v5 on the PK and in OT. He could have had 3+ assists in regulation if finishing was more on point. It's why he started OT. Cooper thought he was playing great. Including his PK time, Canada outchanced Sweden 14-4 with him on the ice.

The start of last nights game felt like it was in slow motion compared to Canada-Sweden. The anticipation is great because we really dont know how these teams measure up and theres no time for tinkering.

Gonna be an absolute banger of a game.

He was literally the best forward on the team in expected goals 5v5. The rest of the forward group must have had worse games.
you need to use your eyes and not cherry picked stats. He didn’t work with McDavid at all.
Did you watch the same game? He had one nice pass that led to the toews chance late in the third, but apart from that he pulled the chute on a play going into the corner with Brodin in the first, failed to drive the net for a tap in when McDavid walked Ekholm earlier in the third, and put McDavid offside on what looked like was going to be a breakaway; I’m glad he scored the winner but I think he handcuffed McDavid playing with him, he’s better served moving down the lineup and adding some playing driving to that fourth line
wasn’t it McDavid who set up Toews?

wasn’t it McDavid who set up Toews?

He was talking about when Marner made the insane diving pass to spring Toews on a break in the first. The one to Toews in the third was Marner>McDavid>Toews and got stopped by the save of the game. McDavid's best chance was when he got setup on a short Marner pass down low and was basically all alone in front but took too much time and got it poked away. I think its on that highlight package a page back. Reinhart had a couple of point blank chances which he didnt convert on too. Its why the analytics are so skewed in favor of that line. I think Crosbys line only produced 5 scoring chances all game but their shooters got one in right?

Just got back from the USA-Finland game and I thought the score line was somewhat flattering to the States/harsh for Finland. I thought Finland did a really good job defending especially considering the players they had. Essentially the poor start to the third period let the game get away from them. That’s unfortunately what elite talent will do to you. Also thought Soros had a bad night. I actually thought the Finish team looked better organized in the first 2 periods.

As for Saturday I definitely think we have a shot. The American defence struggled against Finland on the forecheck and down low. Maybe this is the type of game you plug Benett in.

This Canadian team has like the top 3 players in the world.. of course they have a shot lol

And they are "at home" ...

There are no "underdogs" in this match up

I'm glad Bennett was added but subtracting konecky is not the right move, would love to see the 2 go up against the brothers.but hope it all works out because greater hockey brains than mine are making the decisions

One thing we know--if Saturday goes to overtime, Canada has to score before a shootout. No way Binnington or Hill outduels Hellebuyck in a shootout.
