Werenski coughed the puck up for the goal against and Faber was just out patroling the crease while Canada set up camp there the last shift

defense is a position where shit happens

But I think this is also why you need to take into consideration the quality of shots against. Nyr can give up 25 shots in a game and 15-18 are high quality shots against whereas other teams may give up more shots but they are of lesser danger. This board has been killing nyr for years for how bad the team is defensively and yet that never seems to translate to shot danger when analyzing nyr goaltending. Also I think too many people dismiss the fatigue level that kicks in just from extended zone time against even if it's not full of shots against. Nyr gets caved in on zone time and they are like turnbuckles defensively.

That’s absolute true, and it also supports the opposite argument, that NYR goalies have masked massive deficiencies for nearly two full decades now and the team is almost further away from genuinely competitive than the results indicate because of elite goalies who neutralize tons of high danger chances that shouldn’t even be occurring. Paying for elite goaltending to bail you out won’t get you across the finish line. Eventually, as you pointed out with the fatigue factor and such, the goalie is going to buckle. If you don’t build a proper team in front of them, it really doesn’t matter.
