The fights were great to raise the intensity but 2 hits really were a major key to our identity in last nights game imo. The hits to McDavid on the side boards and one by Brady T on the offensive end boards really were something else. Those 2 hits really said this is not one of the old Team USA teams that would get pushed around.

That game was the hockey match equivalent of John Tortorella in a nutshell. Start some static, get the lead and shut down the neutral zone. When it works, it's art if not frustrating art.

My wife and I were watching the game. She is not really a hockey aficionado but even she got into it and when McAvoy hammered McJesus she was like, 'I feel sorry for the Canadian player that was on the other end of that shot.'

I was like, 'Don't worry. He makes like 12 million bucks per year US. He'll recover.'

Was that McAvoy? I could not remember who it was. I think that hit was huge in many ways. The impact. The effect on our bench. That it was McDavid. That all made it significant. Soon after I saw Sid looking around afraid a hit was coming. I do not remember Sid as a guy that is usually effected by hits but after a few of them all guys start hearing footsteps and having their heads on swivels. We do not have a McDavid or McKinnon or Makar but overall our team does seem to have as much speed as Canada. I'm interested to see how Canada responds in their next game. Will Makar play? I think Makar being out is a big deal.
