I was struck by the different reactions between McDavid and Crosby after the initial adrenaline wore off from the OT goal. In a lot of ways, they have similar personalities - reserved, not going to say much that's controversial, etc.

But you could tell Crosby was really soaking it all in and appreciative. He knows the value of these opportunities and that he doesn't have many left.

I think McDavid appreciated it, but he even said it while it was important, it wasn't the Olympics. He hasn't won Olympic gold in a best-on-best. He hasn't won a Stanley Cup.

It was just an interesting dynamic. McDavid and Mackinnon are famously intense. I wonder if Crosby can get them to try to enjoy the moment more and that might help McDavid break through soon.

Big difference between going to two cup finals and then winning Olympic gold before you were 23 and literally doing nothing at 28.

Yeah, and I think what I'm getting at is that the drought Crosby experienced after the Olympics until the back-to-back Cups - plus his concussion - may have shifted his perspective. Whereas McDavid is now in his prime, has been in the league for 10 years, and is still searching for his big win.

I really like McDavid, but he just seems wound so tight. Maybe this will ease a little pressure from him.

also as has been said, scratching Connor was terrible. Admittedly, he had been an absolute ghost the tournament but you gotta try to get him going. Nelson, Kreider.. yawn. looking forward to the rematch next year, hopefully everyone healthier.
It’s on brand for Sullivan to play the less talented scrubs over the skilled players…I mean scoring goals is just a matter of some bounces, anyone can stand in front of the net and make a tip …that’s seriously what he thinks…thankfully he lost

Maybe the best hockey game I’ve ever watched live, the other being the 2010 gold medal game.

Mad respect to Canada. Thought the US completely outplayed them in the OT (although Canada dominated the final 3 min+ of the 3rd) and they found a way. The 4 best players in the world wear red still.

But… USA is destroying Canada if they see them at the 2026 Olympics. We are on the precipice of something special.

Been hearing the same stuff for the last 30 years. I’ll believe it when I see it.

For now though, Canada still reigns supreme like the gold god himself, Dennis Reynolds.

I don't know if Billy G is in charge in selecting the 2026 Olympic team but Trocheck, Fox, Nelson and Kreider should NOT even if consideration for anything but being over paid in the NHL. Thompson and Caulfield should be on the 2026 roster.

Need to find a spot for DeBrincat, Caufield, Thompson. Dudes could do absolutely nothing all game and pick a corner the one time they have space. Big believer you need checkers in a tourney like this (how JT Miller played)… but Kreider, Nelson, Trocheck were useless relative to a guy like DeBrincat.

And why wasn't Jason Robertson selected for team USA?

It’s only a year. Only difference in Canada’s roster will be goalies + Pietrangelo/Theodore in and probably one of Bedard or Cellibrini.

Stoked we won. Binnington made me eat crow in OT.

McDingleberry getting “Player Of The Game” is/was hilarious though. As up until the GWG, he was playing like straight up rancid ass all night.

But, what else is new. :eyeroll: The media love their McDavid circlejerking.
