Canada's roster just might not be all that good.

Cirelli, Marchand, Bennett, Hagel, Jarvis, Parayko, Doughty. That's a lot of meh and slowness.

Hot take: Nazem Kadri and Tom Wilson should be on this team if you wanted "grit" but guys with speed and skill.

Compared to USA, Canada's roster felt a bit top heavy to me on both forward and defense.

They have the edge on star power, but they also have a bunch of guys that are a bit past their prime. USA has plenty of talent and a bunch of guys that are still in their prime.

I keep wondering if Canada might be in trouble the next little while, if some young talent doesn't step forward. Seems as though their development has fallen off just a bit from the elite level. Especially on defense.

Worst game MacK has played in an Avs sweater

I agree. Speed is name of the game today. Finland couldn't keep up with the US at all. Finland is way too heavy and slow.

USA in this game felt a bit to me like the Avs in 22, but more physical, where teams just couldn't figure out how to beat their speed/defensive game.

Nothing they did mattered, because they couldn't skate with them, and they both committed to working hard defensively, and had the talent to score big goals.

Hope Canada wins in regulation against Finland so we can see how they rebound for Round 2 in the finals. Some good old fashioned hockey drama. (sorry Finnish friends)

Marchand is done. Completely cooked. Canada could have found more than a few players better than him.

Bennett wasn’t bad. Played quite a physical game, which was necessary at times tonight.

And while he was quite good in the first game, Crosby was terrible tonight. Turnover machine.

US played great team defense though. Deserved the win.

other than that ot 3v3 goal Mitch Marner has been an absolute black hole and honestly doesn’t fit anywhere in the lineup. This roster is constructed so weirdly.

Oh well, congrats USA. While we are at it, can we agree to get rid of the Canadian Dollar and take on yours so everything doesn’t cost 40% more when I come down there? You’ve taken hockey from us, please let us have you dollar.

That was pretty fun, but the opening stuff was dumb as hell. Watching the Tkachuk bros meathead high five after their fights was like any bad teen movie with bullies or straight out of Cobra Kai. Matthew never really fights, but in a glorified exhibition tournament he's a tuff guy? Gross. At least the JT Miller-Parayko fight happened after an actual hockey play. This USA team is not easy to get behind as an American, especially with no Avs.

And imagine being a proud Canadian and having Binnington as your goalie. Blech, what a shitbag hoser.

Funny, I feel the complete opposite. The fact that this US team feels like a bad B movie bad guy, is why it's easy for me to root for them. The only thing missing is a scene of Mathew Tkachuk punching McDavid in the gut at a bar and leaving with his girlfriend. And while walking out of the bar yelling "Later Mc-LOOSER".

Eichel reaches back far and gives Eddie Haskell vibes.

Oh yeah, I have long thought Canada will fall behind other countries soon. Not only do they not have a legit skill development program the way USA/Finland/Czechia seem to, they make playing hockey insanely difficult financially. I'll bet there are more than a few kids with all-world talent as young kids who cannot afford to keep playing and switch to basketball or soccer.

When I saw final rosters, USA immediately jumped out at me as the best. I didn't even think Canada had THAT much of a star power edge because USA has some elite guys of their own. The only guy who stuck out like a sore thumb was Brock Nelson instead of Clayton Keller. Otherwise, they built a fast, skilled team and they work hard.

Clearly, USA management learned their lesson from the 2014 and 2016 disasters when they looked incredibly old and slow. It actually feels like Canada fell into that trap of picking "winners" and guys with reputations rather than legitimately better players.

I will harp on it until proven wrong: Anthony Cirelli has no business on this team and honestly, neither does Brandon Hagel.

Wait -- you know you aren't supposed to root for the obnoxious bullies, right? Movie watching must be a whole different experience for you.

What a pathertic showing from Canada.

Good thing I said before the game that whoever lost tonight would win the final.

I've never been wrong in my life.

Goodnight.

Thats assuming they win Finland in their last game and oh boy if I learned anything in my years watching hockey anything is possible in these kind of tournaments, maybe not propable but possible.

Finland didnt look bad against Sweden but then again there is always little more in play when they meet.
