No matter how people say it’s a fake tournament or whatever, it’ll be 1000 times better than the All-Star game and when players represent their country they take it way more seriously than an All-Star show.

I’ll watch those games for sure and I wouldn’t be watching the All-Star game.

Think it’ll be great tbh.

All star game is two days, it's great for the city it's in, but not really anything more than a spectacle for kids,

I don't mind this tournament other than the disruption it causes to the season, I'll be about as interested in it as I am in Spengler cup. Might tune into a game if I have nothing else to do.

There's also so much space between games compared to the All-Star game.

Plus the surrounding events are fun, like hardest shot, skills comp. You see more of the players in a different light.

This is gonna be like Temu Olympics.

It's best on best with 4 of the best hockey countries competing.

It's 100X more compelling than the Spengler Cup or All-Star break.

The lineups are insane. I want to see Canada crush everyone while all of our guys rest and prepare for the 2nd half push.

Don't care at all who wins, I just don't want to see Brady or Ullmark get injured. I'm sure it will at least be high quality, entertaining hockey. Certainly better than the shit show the All-Star weekend is. The players seem to really think international hockey matters, so I'm sure they'll be giving it their all.
 
This is how the NHL ended up here, they thought that participating in the Olympics would benefit their product, by exposing it to more people around the world……. So they suspended their season, in the most critical part of their season, the “Stretch drive” when typically the US networks started to air games nationally on a regular basis. Ever since then the All Star Break morphed into the “Week Off” for all teams…. So that every four years the Olympic suspension of their schedule would become normal …… But there was zero benefit to the NHL participation in the Olympics…… and they stopped participating….and now we’re stuck with this break in the Season, and teams with momentum in the pursuit of a playoff spot, have to sit down for an extended period of time, and teams have to hope their star players, involved in whatever tournament the NHL serves up, don’t get hurt.


The NHL should look in the mirror, and realise they’re the premier Hockey product on the planet, and stop bending over backwards to court the IOC to get back into the Olympics….and go back to their uncompressed schedule, with no week off and only a three day break, at the same time for all teams for an all star weekend….. and keep the product on the ice, and the interest of the fans.

If the NHL and NHLPA want to host an international type tournament then I think they should do it in the off season. Breaking up the regular season and causing a tighter regular season schedule with B2Bs is stupid.

I agree that the concept of best on best is 1000 X more interesting than an all star game. The problem is, the players will be going 60-70%. I really don't think they care. They'll want to put on a show but none will want to risk injury. Hope I'm wrong, but I think it'll be glorified shinny games.

The Olympics is a different story.

Its not though. It's just NHL players and its only 4 teams. Made up of NHL players. Its a rebranded all star game.

It's not close to a best on best tournament.

Good point, only four countries are participating so we are missing out on some of the best players in the game.

My reply was speaking to the "its meaningless" comment
