Florida GM was Team USA GM iirc so he probably was pretty involved in him playing or not.
Tkachuk should have known he could not go full throttle. He never looked right the very 1st shift he took.

It's a fun tournament for sure but to crown a champ. Nah.
McDavid said I am the face of hockey 😆It was fun to watch Donny, great hockey

I can't wait for the Olympics.

This tourney hands down needs to be a replacement for the all-star game. 100%.

Add more teams. This was awesome.

Game of inches and 1 mistake. Best player in the world being left open. Ridiculous.

Still love my country. Still proud to be an American.

Free Bird all day.

Now...we go back to Bruins hockey....😅
You will get the World Cup Of Hockey every 4 years like the Olympics the next four years.

Its tough to expect owners to risk their assets like this and all players to buy in every 2 years (Olympics World Cup).

I think this tourney shows you don't have to worry about players not buying in.

Having this replace the all-star game was an awesome decision. And I hope it continues.

Clayton keller too
Would have been about as effective as Jack Hughes.

US didn't have enough Tkachuk's upfront. Eichel, Matthews and Larkin are a good trio of centerman. That's a murderous row of Centerman those three were matched up against in McDavid, McKinnon & Point and they held there own. .

Nelson reeks of a Christian family 60/80 legacy pick. He can't match up as a
4th line center against McDavid, McKinnon and Point.

However they would have been better served with Tage Thompson instead of Nelson who is a good NHL player but not a top 4C at this level.

I want to know why an obvious hurt Matthew Tkachuk suited up.

Because you just wasted a roster spot.
Kreider over Connor too.
USA team missed McAvoy.
Matthews sucks. Adam Fox too.

However, great tourney. Let's do it again
Do you realize who Matthews, Eichel & Larkin were matched up against? None of the guys sucked.

Yeah but it was 9 years ago. Wen you start doing this every two years it's going to be a different story.

You put McAvoy and Quinn Hughes there it's probably a different story .Imagine no Makar
Its not Olympic Ice, its NHL?

Then add Makar, Theo, Petro, and Morrisey back in for Canada and it gets a lot closer.

Quinn Hughes, maybe Seth Jones and maybe Carlson probably could have helped USA.
Carlson over Fox and Jones. Jones has trouble in his own end. A RD Faber, McAvoy
and Carlson over Fox would have been better.

"Yay, we won!.....wait, hold on, what did we win?"

Sums up tonight and this tournament. Bragging rights seems to be the only thing that was on the line, and even that....ehhh..

I think on paper Canada’s team was way more talented. Was all goaltending and US knowing how to play with each other and just had more chemistry. Eventually Canada figured out who defers to who and Binnington stepped up.

Tkachuk and Mcavoy out hurt them big time.
Canada is more talented but not way more talented. That's a stretch. They lost to the US and pushed to OT by Sweden and beat the US in OT. Hellebuyck played well for certain but didn't make saves like Binnington did in OT, thats a fact.
Also the Bennett goal and McDavid goal he sat in his net a bit to much. There was a ton of net to shoot at for McDavid.

Makar played tonight and the other guys aren't better than Hughes. You get a
RD Corp of McAvoy-Faber-Carlson and LD Slavin-Hughes-Hughes-Sanderson.
That D Corp is every bit as good Canada.

Of course it was McDavid. Of course it was Matthews who made a critical error. Of course Binnington came up huge in another winner-takes-all game at the Garden. Say what you will about the guy, he is clutch in big games.

All told, a very successful bit of business for the NHL. Hockey players really know how to bring it and entertain in these kinds of situations. Good fun. Some bragging rights for Canada, but nothing more yet. They and the US are clearly closely matched. One has more pure talent and offensive firepower, the other more depth and a team that can more quickly find good chemistry and rhythm. Sweden and Finland aren't miles away either, would expect the same of Czechia and Russia.

Looking forward to the Olympics and we will see who steps up when there is gold on the line and it really really matters. For now, well done Marchy, glad for him, and congrats Canada.

Back to the Bruins. Hmmmm......

Ok....historic game, Canada won the first ever Four Nations Cup, pretty big deal with the popularity and how fans embraced it. We all know WAY more that that was on the line. Canada, the True North, Strong and Free. 🇨🇦

Sports can be cruel. Matthews comfortably outplayed McDavid in this game. Made key plays on the two US goals, engaged and productive all night, had multiple chances to end it in OT, while #97 struggled for impact, couldn't find his customary space, allowed a couple of bad turnovers and by his own admission was "not very good". But he got open and the puck found him at the right time, Matthews lost his man, McDavid put it in the net, and that was that. And that's what everyone will remember. Harsh, but that's the way it goes.
