Four Nations Cup

I could care less. More of a tourny for real young kids to get excited about. I haven’t even looked into the format at all.

There is only 4 teams, so I assume everyone makes the semifinals ? The round robin games are just for funsies ?

NHL players are going back to the Olympics a year from now. There will be a break in the season just like this one for it. This is a preview of next year's Olympics featuring four of the top hockey nations.

Another tournament I do not support. What other top level sports sports interrupt their season? Hockey should follow soccer and have an every 4 year "World Cup" event. Have it offset soccer and the Olympics and play the tournament in the OFF SEASON. Candidly, I don't even like this idea, but I am trying to compromise here. I wish a few stars, including Larkin and Raymond, would have declined the invite. Bettman thinks he can recreate the summit series or 1980 Olympics. He can't.

Would for sure rather watch the Wings, but best on best is always fun. I hope they play with intensity, but obviously hope Larkin and Ray come back healthy and ready for the playoff push.

I'm looking forward to seeing Raymond compete with the best players in the world. He's severely underrated league-wide, so I hope he lights it up.

Probably only gonna watch to see how many times the US national anthem is booed. :sarcasm:
The Canadian anthem is also getting booed in the States, also Trump has threatened to convert Canada to the 51st state, so of course we're a little upset with him.

And that's the political extent I'm going to, if mods wanna remove this go for it. There are many Canadian Wings fans, so let's keep it peaceful here.

Pretty sure all soccer does is interrupt their season with other tournaments. Baseball has had the World Baseball Classic interrupting spring training. The NBA has had an in-season tournament the last few years.

Hockey should follow the NFL and just have an all-star game after the season, make it part of a weekend where they do all of the rewards. Condensing the schedule, making it worse to grind through so they can accommodate this stuff...rather just have the season schedule easier on the players, or just end the season two weeks earlier.

Doing this like baseball and having it during preseason wouldnt be a bad move. Star players knock the rust off a little more competitively, and allows for more young guys to get chances during the preseason.

i mean, isn't the stanley cup playoffs already the best, 'best on best' hockey tournament in the world?

Although I agree about the general disrespect Larkin gets for his overall game, 4th line winger minutes sound perfect right now. Honestly, wouldn't be upset if he got scratched.

No need at all for Larks to over extend for this.

It's not , there are plenty star players who will not going to play in playoffs .
Best on best should be 2 teams from USA and Canada, Russia, Finland, Sweden and rest of the world team

Trochek over Larkin is crazy. Wings haven’t been getting National respect for like a decade now.
Will be interesting to see what Larkin going to do with less than usual responsibilities

Taking all of the talent in the NHL and consolidating it all to a handful of teams has a strong argument for being better.

As for this tournament? I expect it to be a decent watch and a nice change of pace for my entertainment, but hoping Larkin and Raymond don't get hurt is also at the top of my list of things I'm hoping for
