Feels like a bit of a defining moment for McDavid. Up until then he had played the most of any fwd on either team in this game and it’s fair to say he hadn’t been particularly impactful. He’s a player people expect to be the difference maker in big games. Unfortunately he wasn’t that in game 7 of the cup final and if things went differently tonight there would have inevitably been questions about his ability to show up in the biggest of moments. It was a huge moment for him tonight and it wouldn’t surprise me to see that carry forward. Every single person deals with some form of doubt and a flick of the wrist definitely erased some for 97 tonight.
