No it's not the Olympics but it's still best on best international Hockey. You just don't get that many chances in your lifetime to tune in to an event like this. The players get even fewer opportunities to play in them so I suspect they will take it way more seriously than some are concerned about.

I’m a little miffed the Czechs aren’t in, I understand why the Russians aren’t but I’ll be watching. 2 weeks without hockey in February would be silly.
I guess some here could watch basketball but you couldn’t pay me to watch that crap.

1) We definitely have the best player in the league who's not at that tournament, so it's a great time for Leon to rest up for the rest of the season.

2) It's gonna be crazy to see McKinnon, McDavid, and Makar all on the ice at the same time, on the same team. It's kind of insane to think of a 37-yr-old Sid Crosby as a tagalong in a 5-man group.

I don't give a crap who the Americans, Swedes or Finns put on the ice, they will be overwhelmed when our top unit is out there.

Guess I'm a bum then. Will only watch casually if it happens to be on when I'm flipping, and while it may be better than an all star game and festivities, I think we all know it for what it is - nothing more than a Bettman money grab. And in a schedule that already is condensed far too much and goes on far too long, it puts extra strain on players that are in it. Especially the big stars who usually chew up lots of minutes and may already be dealing with something else. Personally, I'm also in the group of those that wouldn't mind if both Canada and Sweden get knocked out early and McDavid and Ekblom get some much needed rest and a recharge.
But am not going to diss anyone that wants to watch, so ...enjoy!

The only way the US doesn't win this is if post season Helle shows up. Will come down to tending, and all three of ours range from meh to crap.

Yup. Canadian goaltending has been shite for a while now. Bad enough that Stu Skinner was a consideration for a spot. LOL
 
Here's my list of guys that shouldn't be on the roster (washed up, or not good enough), behold some hot takes:

Marchand
Bennett
Cirelli
Jarvis (meh)
Mr Spleen

I guess the argument for Marchand and Bennett is they think rat f***s will be important in a joke tourney. Cirelli is a lol choice, Jarvis is good, but overrated, and Mr Spleen might injure himself on the way to the dressing room (and he sucks). I suppose Jarvis is on so they have some semblance of youth...idk

Since Axeman Pete pulled out of the tourney, I'm okay with the D (though I think it won't perform as well as some think)

All of the goalies (but no choice because Canada seemingly can't develop goaltenders anymore). I don't think it should shock anyone if goaltending sinks the team. They have to pray Montembeault will be as good as his peaks since he has a team that isn't complete dog shite (current Habs) in front of him. Binnington is a spas and Hill rides his Cup run reputation harder than Binnington did

im curious to know which players are ones you have haven't about?

If you've followed the league for the last few years you should be aware of all them.


as for me, the current political climate has ruined all my potential enjoyment of this tournament or any sports really.
 
I aint going to watch. Completely nothing tournament. I don’t understand what the purpose of it is.

I do find the roster so bizarre though. The roster is built like they want a grizzled veteran group that can withstand 4 rounds of playoff hockey.

Roster also feels like its very cliquey with the GM and coaches whos teams they represent.

I would think with a tournament like this it should have more emphasis on growing the game. But theres hardly any youth or excitement represented from Canadas perspective at least.

Hopefully McDavid and Ekholm don’t get injured.

I think you’re right, that was taped. lol.

People complaining the tournament is a money grab are right but what isn’t? $20 a beer should be their first clue.
 
Having a team Europe in your last NHL "world" event, that would now have several of the best players in the entire league and contend for a win, and then banning Russia (appropriately) while also cutting out all your European players... is dumb.

Has there ever been a 4 team tournament in the history of the planet that wasnt f***ing dumb?
 
What a farce. This is like music awards. All political choices. Canada isn't even sending it's best team

Imagine Skinner got chosen? That would have helped us. He would have had close to a 0.800
