Just checked the rosters. And wow, does Canada look underwhelming on paper this time around. Some players I have not even heard about. Any thoughts?
A giant "meehhh". Not confident with Binnington as goalie. Also no Russia, no Czechia.Just checked the rosters. And wow, does Canada look underwhelming on paper this time around. Some players I have not even heard about. Any thoughts?

Who the hell are Jarvis and Sanheim? In 2010 they could barely squeeze franchise players on the fourth line. f***ing Americans look deeper.A giant "meehhh". Not confident with Binnington as goalie. Also no Russia, no Czechia.
Too much stimulants in general. decades ago, big-time sporting events were much less frequent. We are spoiled.I don’t know why…..but I could care less. Will I watch….yeah probably. Out of curiosity more than anything else.
I’m cheering for every player that gets 10 days off to spend with family, rest aches and pains or get some sun.Just checked the rosters. And wow, does Canada look underwhelming on paper this time around. Some players I have not even heard about. Any thoughts?
They couldn't have organized a less patriotic tourney if they tried. Everybody knows what this is, simply a money grab by the league, If we win, I guess that's nice, but like you said, if Connor gets more rest, that is what is most important to me as an Oilers fan.Not very patriotic of me, but would like to see Canada out quickly so McDavid can get the rest he needs.
I'd be fine with just Olympics every four, when the best teams with the best players go for it. I watched Canada Cup in 1987, I think--cheering for the Soviets against Canada in the final. It was great. 2006 was no longer the same for whatever reason. Maybe satiation with hockey. This is certainly no Canada Cup. Fans over 50 remember the excitement over those tournaments. There’s no comparison to this in terms of fan anticipation no matter how much the league and their sponsors had tried to pretend there was earlier in the season.
These tournaments can work and are wanted but they need to be done properly. First thing is having all the major hockey nations represented. Only four is a slap in the face to the many players not representing those countries and their fans.
Second thing is holding it in September before the regular season starts. Nobody wants to see the league shut down for 2 weeks in February for this. They’ll tolerate a shut down every four years for the Olympics where it is actually a best on best world tournament when the nhl players go but again, this isn’t that. Players are their freshest in September and willing to give their most. They’re banged up in February and are just trying to stay healthy.
The only thing I’m looking forward to regarding this tournament is how dominant Leon Draisaitl is going to be in the second half of the season when he comes back well rested from his mid season holiday.
I could tolerate an Olympics every four years I suppose only because it would be better than nothing but I’d prefer the NHL abandon that and hold their own tournament in September instead every four years. I’m not a fan of shutting down the season midway through the year. Since Bettman took over these types of tournaments they went from regular appearances every 3-4 years down to nothing.I'd be fine with just Olympics every four, when the best teams with the best players go for it.
