Up close view of the thought process when selecting the team Canada roster

its the same issue as the selection of the 1998 and 2006 olympic team. Picking players that dont belong there and leaving ones that do at home. The guys that pick the team use more criteria than just " are they good hockey players" which of course works when you dont have much competition but the unlike the olympics all the teams here have great players on them. Theres no Canada vs Belarus like in 98, or Canada vs Italy like in 06.

even in the tournaments we won and the teams that are generally looked as among the greatest team canada's ever had have lost games in tournament. This is a short tournament of 4 games, no chance for chemistry to form or the team to grow, if the 2002 olympics were 4 games im not sure Canada wins that, they needed the round robin to come together to figure it out. Canada was also unimpressive in 2010 until the medal round.

This tournament, while fun and providing great hockey so far, isn't a measuring stick tournament. I won't be reading anything into it win or lose. Its just simply too short

What was the point of brining along two other goalies then.

Edit: Extra weight in the van due to all the snow.

i don't get it. He's let in bad goals in both games. The guys running this team seem to be clueless. Short tourney, chemistry is very important, best player from team Canada has a teammate, even a line mate, that is one of the best scorers, and puck retrievers in the country, so he's a natural pick right? nope. don't take him.

Ok, so, we are going with recent results, not past? ok, got it. Canada's goaltending situation is a little weak. Oh, lucky, we have a guy who is super hot, off to a great start, a clear Vezina finalist, in Logan Thompson. Take him for sure, since it's more about about recent results, nope, pass on him for all 3 spots. Just take all the Blues, all the Golden Knights, and all the Lightning players we can.

Short sighted, biased, and full of questions. Serves them right.

This is TEAM CANADA, our D has Sanheim and Harley in the top 6 D, injuries or not, that's insane.

They should always pick the most skilled players for these tournaments. The best players are able to play any role needed. It’s like Armstrong picked a stacked top 6 then decided to fill the bottom spot 6 with role players besides Point. The US team went with the best 12 and that’s why they’re undefeated so far.

Because its run like an old boys club. Ironically, Crosby was able to bring Kunitz to the Olympic team but HC couldnt bring Hyman to a short Tourney where chemistry is important.

But hey, we got Tbay's entire 2nd Line, aging Marchand, questionable D and goalie choices and a 57 goal scorer who can't even score...

Cirelli has been useless in the tourney, this is way above his level.

Ekholm and Arvidsson both healthy scratched for Sweden vs USA. Arvidsson hasn't really accomplished much but Ekholm is a head scratcher, especially considering he's Sweden's only truly physical D, though to be fair I haven't seen more than bits and pieces of Sweden's games.
Either way not a great tournament for Oiler players.

He was apparently pretty bad against the Finns.

Wasn't he sick entering the Tourney?
