I felt like Nostradamus after that one.
I feel your vibe. I was watching the game with my teenage son and at some point in the third period I turned to him and said, "McDavid's having a bad game so far. That's a good thing for Canada."

He looked at me like I was nuts, and I followed up with, "He's due."

Felt pretty vindicated at the end of the game.

Our sovereignty isn't under threat, the republicans are actually terrified of Canadians. The USA would have to take 10 provinces and 3 territoriesand make them states, that is 26 more senators, the vast majority anti-maga. Canada would control the US not the other way around. Trudeau should take up the offer just to watch Trump backpedal.

All this is just noise to distract from the real shenanigans goings on. It made the 4 nations more interesting at least.
I think it's woefully naive to believe that Trump and the Republicans would annex Canada and then allow us to permanently tip the balance of power in Congress to the Democrats. Long established political norms would already be completely gone by that point.

Miller didn’t play poorly by any means for the US in this tournament. In fact he was good.

But I do think it’s funny that he went pointless, made a soft non-play on the wall that cost them the 2-1 lead, and then leaked that he got mad at the Tkachuks.

Even though he’s right to be mad bc they talked too much publicly. But still.. know when not to comment publicly given your reputation. It’s different if that was Crosby or something.

Separately,

So impressed by Slavin - Faber on the back end. Genuinely amazing from them. Thought Boldy was fantastic. Tkachuks, Eichel, Guentzel, Werenski, Matthews, Sanderson, Larkin. all good

Miller, McAvoy, Helly ok

Nelson, Jack Hughes, Trocheck, Fox, Hanifin, Connor.. oh boy.

Especially Hughes and Fox. Just awful.

And if you know Hughes is taking PP1, and you have Faber and McAvoy as your 1/2 on the right.. I wonder with how far Fox has fallen off in the past two years if.. yeah

They were the better team and I do think should have won.

I was definitely surprised by how few penalties there were in the tournament overall. Canada and USA in particular had some real power play weapons that didn’t get much opportunity to go to work.

Fox has been overrated for awhile in my opinion.

After McAvoy got hurt, Slavin was far and away USA’s best defensemen, I felt.
It was the guys that can play with pace that just reinforced their status

Slavin is one of the best player in the game with how he plays. Faber and sanderson are right there as newcomers.

It is always cool to watch guys that dont get the spotlight just continually excel and simply play a fantastic all around game

Google "Puerto Rico" and disabuse yourself of this notion.

To be fair it likely won't be the same scenario. But this is still at BEST a monumentally disrespectful joke, and at worst a real threat to our country's sovereignty.

It makes my blood boil.
So maybe now you (who always likes to spout about how proud you are of being Chinese) understand how us Taiwanese feel

I’m 5th generation Canadian mutt. My family came over on the Mayflower.

I will always endorse those who want to come to Canada because they hate their government and I endorse how they feel, but it’s important we do think of ourselves as Canadians first. Beyond that I don’t really understand or care.

But never direct that hate to our own.

And on that note, I’ll shut this down. The narrow intersection of hockey and politics concluded with this event for the time being. A reminder that no political discussion is permitted anywhere else.
