I am confused why a leafs fan is making a proposal for oilers… not to mention leafs need goalie help too.

would the leafs make this trade? If your answer is no, then neither would oilers.
The problem for Toronto (involving trading for a goalie) is that Mrazek isn't expiring....koskinen is. So even if they wanted to make this trade (or any other goalie trade), the cost will be higher for them having to add Mrazek into the deal.

thats fair but if that trade cant be made at this deadline you waste another year and not to mention with key extensions needed.

You already know what you have/dont have in smith and koskinen and from what i gather skinner isnt ready as of yet. Not making a move where a 2nd to a 5th would be used for the sake of saving assets in a scenario where you 2 of the best players in the game just seems like poor logic

now if the asking price is a 1st or a 2nd and a prospect then i understand the hesitancy. But considering the lower odds of drafting an nhl after the first round (not impossible) and the time it would take to develop any player throwing a dart would be a move to make.

A second is too high for forsberg (unless there is somehow a bidding war haha) but objectively i think there is a better chance forsberg goes on a run then smith or koskinen. Hell at this stage send a 4th for martin jones just to try and catch lightning in a bottle

Im not against trading for a guy like Forsberg. But the assets would have to be minimal since its just spaghetti against the wall.

My grandma is an 92 year old korean lady, and probably better than Mike Smith is at this point.

That's no reason why the Oilers should trade a 2nd for Forsberg.

Doing 2 stupid moves isn't better than 1 stupid move.

To EDM: Forsberg

To OTT: 2nd rounder

Who says no?
Imo that is a solid proposal. That is just the type of goalie the Oilers should target.

I know the obvious thing is that Oilers stupidly waived him just to protect awful depth players from waivers. It was a huge mistake.

I would offer Holland the olive branch that Forsberg increased his value after leaving Edmonton. That is a credit to our pro scouting that Forsberg was targeted in the first place

But what are the criteria for what goalie is worth it then? Imo a goalie getting great stats on a bad team is a positive sign. He even compares favorably to the other goalies on his team. I haven't watched him closely so all I have to go on are stats. Seems like a great choice by that measure

More than a 26 game sample size?

Like he's not young. We know goalies can get hot for short streaks at a time.

If the sample were large it would cost a lot more than a 2nd

I dont think we can land an established goalie this deadline. It will have to be a test of our scouts to find a good gamble to try out

At 29 years old, I kinda believe this is just a lucky hot-run than everyone missing out on his elite-abilities for a decade before.

Koskinen put up better numbers when he started his career remember? Would anyone trade a 2nd for Koskinen?

Koskinen would absolutely have been worth a second after his first strong stint. The value tanked over time and mostly because of his contract

The better way to frame it would be: Koskinen is not worth a 2nd when you factor in a larger sample size.

Much like Forsberg likely is not either.
Maybe you are right but as of now I'm thrilled at any trade that gets us a new goalie.

And imo us fans dont really know what the trade values will be like. It rarely matches what we think it will be. To me a 2nd isnt really much special
