Forsberg isn't worth a second, but...

Oilers say no based solely off the fact that OTT claimed him off waivers from EDM last and Holland's ego wouldn't let him trade an asset for Forsberg
He was claimed from Winnipeg, had a stop in Carolina in between. Senators should sign him instead of trading him.

Did Forsberg suddenly turn into a legit starter? FFS.

Oh, and let us not forget a pending UFA.

do the oilers have a legitimate starter

a second is probably too much but the fact that forsberg can even be argued as an upgrade is a bad thing

26 games played this year and he's got a .920 SV% playing in front of a poor defense.

I don't think he's a starter beyond this season but in the games he's played this year he's been among the best in the league.

If a team like the Oilers could get him for something like a 3rd, they should pull the trigger.

Oilers should definitely go after a goalie.

However, it is a dumb idea and not very realistic one that they shell out a 2nd for a guy who played all of 25 games as a Sen and was waiver fodder before that. And isn't cost controlled.

so question is the thinking here that a team will trade a cost controlled goalie to edmonton just because or is the plan here to punt another season with mcdavid and draisaitl?

The idea is the Oilers need a proven starter that is a clear upgrade on what we have and is a long term fix. Or why waste assets on someone that may or may not be better?

If you can wear a goalie pad, the Oilers is interested?

thats fair but if that trade cant be made at this deadline you waste another year and not to mention with key extensions needed.

You already know what you have/dont have in smith and koskinen and from what i gather skinner isnt ready as of yet. Not making a move where a 2nd to a 5th would be used for the sake of saving assets in a scenario where you 2 of the best players in the game just seems like poor logic

now if the asking price is a 1st or a 2nd and a prospect then i understand the hesitancy. But considering the lower odds of drafting an nhl after the first round (not impossible) and the time it would take to develop any player throwing a dart would be a move to make.

A second is too high for forsberg (unless there is somehow a bidding war haha) but objectively i think there is a better chance forsberg goes on a run then smith or koskinen. Hell at this stage send a 4th for martin jones just to try and catch lightning in a bottle

Edmonton AB
To EDM: Forsberg

To OTT: 2nd rounder

Who says no?

The Oilers.

Forsberg is a serviceable backup.. just like Koskinen. Yes, Forsberg is an improvement on this year's Mike Smith but so would about 100 other goalies and none of the available goalies make the Oilers significantly better this year.

Forsberg is worth about a 5th round pick at best but the Sens would have no reason to deal him for that... he's been great for them... this year. In the previous 3 seasons Forsberg played a total of 11 games with a save% just over .900. Maybe the Sens can start advertising him like the Ranger fans do with Georgiev... he just has to play a lot and that makes him a decent starting NHL goalie.

If you don't win a cup the season is wasted . Is Forsberg going to win Edmonton a cup this year ? Nope . Is he going to help Edmonton even win a couple of rounds ? Nope . So why waste a pick ? Forsberg would likely re sign here as he already signed here once before . Maybe we sign him to the off season and punt Smith to AHL and run Skinner and Forsberg . Keep the better goalie and at the trade deadline next year and add a goalie
