He washed out of the high level hockey and is now looking for the Akim Aliu treatment of getting a handout from a team to play somewhere else and continue his career.

This made me laugh.

But I get it peer dynamics and all. My friend's had little brothers. We didn't force them to do anything. Well, no more than any of us were put though with our/their cousins. They just wanted to be bigger and badder. There is very strong sense of outdomanship that exists in the male dynamic.

nice take on power dynamics, peer pressure and teenage vulnerability
Was this a bad situation resulting from peer pressure and messed up power dynamics? Sure. Was the guy who "made" him do coke a dirt bag? Yes. Is this some serious tragedy involving a vulnerable teen who was preyed upon and who's life is now in shambles? No.

Chad's upset cause his big bro "made" him try drugs at a party...boo-f***ing-hoo. This kid is not a victim of abuse, calling him such is a disservice to real victims. It's not like the older kid mixed gun powder with the coke then turned him into a child soldier to help cleanse Tutsis.

I really feel for Guest. Hazing is a terrible aspect of hockey culture that needs to be focused in on more, especially at the junior level. These 16 year old kids are under a lot of pressure in their rookie year and in the case of Guest he was also dealing with moving away from home. Having to appease the intense pressure of veteran players on top of all this is a lot to deal with.

It's unfortunate that there are likely many more untold stories from around junior hockey similar to that of Guests.

This is also tough to listen to as a season ticket holder to the Rangers. Some of the veterans on this team were Bracco, Mascherin, Llewellyn, Hall, and Bunnaman. All were well liked by fans and this definitely sours the taste of this core.

So, criteria is older, drafted (and now signed to an NHL team).

Jeremy Bracco
Adam Mascherin
Connor Bunnaman

Get them pitchforks out

Edit: he follows Bunnaman and Mascherin on twitter, but not Bracco. The plot thickens.

It's absolutely an instance of a vulnerable teen being preyed upon. Do you understand that abuse comes in many forms? Just because it wasn't sexual assault or physical assault doesn't mean it isn't abuse.

Being forced into a bathroom to do cocaine and having no say in the situation is 100% abuse. Really unfortunate there are people who will claim Guest is just 'playing the victim' in this situation.

It takes a lot of guts to come out like he has and I applaud him for it. Hopefully his story resonate with more junior players and helps rid these moments of intense hazing from the game.

This was clearly just one instance of many. He said so himself.

Yeah I’d imagine it’s Bracco honestly.

Woof. I had a feeling it would be Bracco.

The full video was tough to watch near the end there, feel bad for the guy... hopefully this helps give a voice to some of the younger players in the league in similar shoes that he was in... he can't be alone in feeling like that as an innocent teen/rookie.

I'd imagine the substance stuff ran throughout the locker room if it ws being forced upon rookies, but of those drafted /signed players that it could have been, I'm pretty convinced it wouldn't be wise to continue wearing my Bracco Jersey to Rangers games anymore... there were rumours of him being an issue in the locker room back then (extending past on ice ethic) and something held him back on the Marlies resulting in a bizarre leave of absence.... If it indeed is him, shame not only that he became a wasted talent, but also caused collateral damage to another young person and their career aspirations.
