Former Canucks Thread 2023-24 Off-Season Edition

Wow, he seemed good when he first got here but the last half of last season did really badly. Maybe an injury cause this seems much higher than his worth with us last season

but he rebounded to have an excellent in the nashville series before a horrendous (iirc injury-impacted) edmonton series

I am saying he would not have to play against the other teams top players... like he is/was there. Like this isn't some hard thing to understand. We had Petey and Miller to start the year to draw top defenders and the other teams best.

He would not have been worth the contract, but he would be doing better in a more sheltered roll.

So you think he would have performed better here in a more sheltered roll. What about his offensive production? Better or worse?

Yes it would be better, playing with Garland in sheltered minutes.

In boston sure he got to play with Pasta, but its a bad fit for him, plus he is going against other teams top pairs then and top centres. That more than offsets playing with a great player.

If he was a winger I am sure it would be easier... but he isn't.

But Garland has been playing up the lineup more this year and like I said with Miller and Petey's struggles, what are the chances of Tocchet playing Lindholm in a 3C sheltered role? I think it's more likely that Lindholm would have been given prime matchup C duties.

what if van didnt include branstrom in the miller deal and picked somebody else? puck moving ability would still be okay. deharnais goes, they still get mpetey/doc. hughes not 100 percent stil injured. soucy still gets traded.

Sorry about quality, had to be quick with the phone.

Our C depth and our W depth was far different to start the year.

When the year began, when was he ever going to play ahead of JT Miller? and even when Miller went out, Pettersson caught fire.

Finally got around to reading Ed Willes’s book. A lot of the content was not new if you’re familiar with Canucks history but found it was still worth a read.

Two tidbits I don’t think I had heard before:

- Gillis had a deal at the 2014 deadline to send Kesler to Anaheim for Bonino, two firsts and two prospects, but was scuttled by ownership.

- Benning had the contours of a deal to move Hamhuis to Pittsburgh for Guentzel but Hamhuis refused to waive when he went to him. Hamhuis said he didn’t want to go east of Chicago.

The what could have beens.
