If the Kings were to resign Derek, I was hoping for a 3yrsX3.5m deal. But with Calgary's signing Rasmus Andersson (D) at 6X4.5, that may be a dream now. What do you think his next contract may be, Kings or not?

Don't see how Forbort really fits in the future, let alone next season. Best scenario for Derek Forbort is to trade him for 3/4th pick and move on. He is a serviceable 4/5th defenseman that a contender would love to add to their depth. Also will be a better fit for another team thats willing to pay.

Next season D could look like this:
Bjornfot/-Doughty
Anderson-Clague
Roy-Walker

We need to start opening up roster spots for these kids, starting with Clague. 3 Years of Forbort holds 1 spot for despite us having:
Doughty, Bjornfot, Clague, Anderson, Roy, Walker, Durzi needing a spot by year 3 of that contract

Also, dont think LA is a player this offseason, but next offseason I could see us adding a defenseman to push this team to contention

Agreed. Though I'd be up for a run at Pietrangelo this coming summer.

UFA in his prime, he'll get 3-4 years at 4-4.5.

I'm not sure our lefties are ready, I'd give him 2 years at 2.5, since our only other LHDs are Martinez (likely gone), MacD (not apparently ever going to play), Clague on the verge, and prospects. Forbort takes the 'experienced LHD' slot for cheapness and familiarity. That way you have some insurance from uneven play by guys like Clague, Bjornfot, Anderson, etc.

I think we're underselling Walker a bit, he's likely our RD2 for the foreseeable future. Odds are we see something like this next season, with Mikey Anderson getting some games as well.

Bjornfot - Doughty
Clague - Walker
Forbort - Roy

That D looks like a bunch of fluffy bunnies.

All I did was swap in Bjornfot and Clague for Martinez and Hutton.

Our D is too soft already this year, swapping in Clague and baby bear foot just makes it softer (More skilled with more potential but soft) I guess thats why im not overly keen on Forbort (especially in a bottom pairing role). In my opinion if you are a one dimensional d first dman, you had better be able to rip someones head off.

I could see him being retained, especially if Martinez and/or Hutton are moved for picks. I just hope it’s no more than a two year deal.

If he does come back for a year or two, hopefully for not more than 3 mil per.

Are they going to keep both Forbort and MacDermid though?

Doubtful, and as much as I like MacDermid and want him playing for my own selfish reasons, Forbort is objectively the better and more versatile player. Hell even with Forbort out Big Mac wasn't getting any minutes, add Clague to that mix and he's screwed. Bummer, because we're softer than Charmin already.

Maybe, but I think the smart play is to deal 2 of the 3, Hutton, Forbort, Martinez, then roll with what you have for the rest of the season,

I think Forbort and Martinez have more trade value, so you deal them...and run with

Doughty - Walker
Hutton - Roy
McDermid - Clague
Ryan

the rest of the year

Most likely.... Forbort's ability to play defense is sorely lacking on this team as is Mac's toughness..
we need more tough, physical defensive players... This is also why I would trade Clifford and resign him along with Nic Deslauriers to bring toughness to our team which is really, really soft..

Anderson/Bjornfot - Doughty
Forbort - Walker
Edmundson/TVR/Hamonic/Broadie - Roy/Anderson/Bjornfot/Clague

Marty and Hutton have the most value as of right now

Depends on what next year's goals are, but there are some good UFAs available. Muzzin, for one. Barrie or Shattenkirk or Vatanen since the PP needs a shot though he'll likely be looking for long-term security and we're good on RHD. Brodie, Tanev, Edmundson...if we want some toughness, there's Dillon (ew), Bogosian, or...drum roll...Gudas. I also like Hamonic.

Crazy amount of forwards available too. I'd take a swing at Leivo. There's also Kreider, or Kassian for toughness.

But I can see a little bit of Blake's philosophy, typically those guys are easier and cheaper to get as UFAs.

Only Clague can step in this year after the TDL.

So some combination of these D to end the year:
Clague Doughty
Martinez Walker
Forbort Roy
MacDermid

Hutton and Ryan should be moved. Martinez next year.
Forbort signed cheap on a 1 year deal would be ideal.

Kale Clague is as tough as wet toilet paper... The kid needs more physical development and should see no part of this shit show
