looks like Derek is about to sign and go to MAN

The Mayor John Hoven ‏@mayorNHL 1m
Hearing #LAKings 2010 first rd pick @derek4bort is packed and ready for Manch. Signing could come as early as today,

Schlossman ‏@SchlossmanGF 16m
Source says Derek Forbort signing with Kings is imminent. Could happen as soon as today. Three-year deal.

had to check who Schlossman is, he covers UND for the Grand Forks paper. so local and tight connections to UND

Good signing by the Kings, wish it was more because he was dominating college hockey than to jump start his development. He still has size and reach that can't be taught, hopefully our coaches develop him well in Manchester.

Hope the Kings won't be against drafting UND players in the future.

i was wondering about this earlier this morning, since DL was talking about it on Wednesday. didn't know if any progress had been made or not, but appears to be some.

now for Mersch....

I had said that I wanted him to stay for one more year, but I also really wasn't to worried either way. I felt it might be good for him to go back for his last year and 'be the man' so to speak, but maybe he needs the challenge the pro ranks can offer. The D in Manchester will be interesting next year, especially if Gravel, Miller and Roach make the jump as well. Could be a very green defense in Manchester.

I think this is better for him and his development by going to Manchester where the Kings coaches and scouts can talk and see him regularly instead of ND....

So glad to see this finally happening. Been clamoring all season that the Kings need to get Forbort out of college and have him move on to the next stage in development. He wasn't progressing much at North Dakota. Another year would just stall him and would've been pointless. He needs to play at a higher level. Hopefully this means that he'll get to join the Monarchs and help them reach the playoffs.

This.

We have to realize that there will be a learning curve here. I will be very surprised to hear him play well in his first few games. I hope to hear he at least wasn't noticed too much. I'm giving the kid some time, the A is a different level than ncaa.

Nice to see this. Hopefully, playing more games at a higher level of competition will increase the speed of his development. Get ready for the reports of how awful he is initially, which is what always seems to happen when a young defenseman starts playing in the AHL.

I kust got back in and was going to post that Forbort is signing. Happy to hear it is going to happen. I may not agree with him leaving school, like I have said before he is the first prospect in a long time that I get an either or read out of.

If he had stayed at ND he would have developed his leadership skills more and it wouldn't have hurt his game but then going to MCH will help him develop his game to the next level more quickly.

My concern is that we really aren't going to have a space for him on the Kings for a couple of years still but then I completely agree with Futa's decision so I am happy to see him sign and end up in MCH.

Nick Shore is about to sign his deal and will also be reporting to MCH.

Yea, it would be great if the veterans like Scuds, Regher, Mitchell and Greener could mentor the young guys kinda like with Sean and Drew a couple years back.

In the recent interview Dean gave regarding the Regehr trade he mentioned the next wave hitting Manchester. I guess this is it.

Looks like Mersch is going to sign pretty quickly soon too.

Add in Gravel and we are going to be monsters again within a year or so. MCH is going to be freaking amazing to watch next year as we won't likely be calling many if any of these kids up unless we get really bit by injury.

Finding a spot for Vey is going to be difficult as it is let alone Pearson and Kozun (if DL has any plans for him BK's agent isn't aware of them).

Word is that Max is going to come back over this summer too.

They clearly aren't IMO or they wouldn't have taken LaDue, who was already committed to go to UND at the time of the draft.

I'm glad he's moving on. We're going to see a LOT of prospects signing and going to Manchester from now until summer time. Hopefully Forbort can actually progress with his offense, which didn't happen at UND at all.

I still don't see Forbort every really developing much of an offensive upside. He has the skills but I spent a ton of time watching ND play this year and to me it just doesn't seem that he has an offencive instinct.

Like most D he is content to stand at the point for the most part and slip up a bit to get his shot off when opportunity presents itself but other than that he is looking to make a smart defencive play.

He keeps his head up when he passes so he is pretty good at that but other than that he is likely to become a solid 4/6 SAH type who can skate.

Boom!

Hopefully Porkins follows Max and stays on target!

100% agree. Every time I watched him, I saw little to no offensive skill. It's a part (NOT ALL) of the reason that I feel very comfortable in saying that I think Gravel is the better prospect. But he showed a bit of offense in his draft year and I know there was hopes that he could use that at the next level and be a good two way guy but I just don't see it anymore. But who knows. He could maybe be asked to contribute more in Manchester and open up his game a bit. Just don't count on it.
