I always enjoy seeing fans of non-playoff teams complaining about Matthew’s point totals in the playoffs

I mean it really isn't when you think about it.

The NBA is massive globally - it is the most watched professional sports league in China which is over 1 billion people.

Add that everyone wears shoes, and its basically a cultural phenomenon for the new generation to be "sneaker heads". NBA players make a lot of money endorsing shoes. Jersey sales are massive too because you can wear a basketball jersey casually.

They have like 100X the reach and marketing potential of NHLers, it makes total sense.
I never see anyone wearing a NBA jersey.

Shoes absolutely. Maybe Matthews needs to up his fashion game?

Pretty interesting article.

That is crazy how much NBA players make and how much they make off the court.
If you are well known enough to get a shoe deal, that is massive. 8 figures and that alone eclipses what NHLers get in salary at the top of the market. A while ago when Sid got his Reebok deal, Harden's average was basically what Sid got over the life of his contract and that was like a 7 year deal for Sid IIRC.

$21.7m this year for the Leafs captain. The first hockey player this century to earn over $20m in a year

The rest of the list here:
McDavid comes out being a bargain.... and Ovi's is a nail in the Caps shoe.

How is that possible lol do you live on the moon
I live in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, North America, The Earth, The known universe, The other universe on the other side of those black holes.

Never see anyone wearing an NBA jersey, or even more so an NFL jersey but that's a weird thing to wear.

I'm not talking about hats and t-shirts. Yet I see quite a lot of NHL team jerseys, unfortunately too many Bruins and Habs jerseys (sweaters)

go to SE Asia, its literally like every 3rd person. Have you ever been to a festival?
I get the shoe thing.

Maybe Matthews or McDavid can get a shoe.

Someone go design that.

There's a ton of that in Oshawa. I was just downtown last week and saw a dolphins jersey and chiefs gear.

This surprises people?

He is an American superstar, one of the best players in the game, unquestionably, and he plays in Toronto while exhibiting at least a modicum of personality and style - whether that makes you want to cheer for him or punch his stupid face is somewhat irrelevant.

Small market teams should get more cap space because they can't offer players $5m in yearly endorsements.
Yep Edmonton can sure use 5mil cap right now

Him being an American superstar is kind of minor in the big picture to why he eclipsed 20 mil

It’s totally possible that these things aren’t popular where you live, but if they are massively popular elsewhere it kind of negates your point.
