Well he's a superstar in a huge hockey market.

McDavid, while the superior hockey player, also doesn't seem to have much to him; he's just kind of unassuming and modest. Matthews definitely has a bit more personality to him, as does Drai but that doesn't really pertain.

Pretty interesting article.

That is crazy how much NBA players make and how much they make off the court.
I mean it really isn't when you think about it.

The NBA is massive globally - it is the most watched professional sports league in China which is over 1 billion people.

Add that everyone wears shoes, and its basically a cultural phenomenon for the new generation to be "sneaker heads". NBA players make a lot of money endorsing shoes. Jersey sales are massive too because you can wear a basketball jersey casually.

They have like 100X the reach and marketing potential of NHLers, it makes total sense.

Bieber's husband.

He is going to murse his way up to 60 goals again. Can't to wait to see him in a proper leadership role. To me he's up there in top 3 of hockey players with God given talent that don't want to play hockey.

Especially considering load management

Teams are ecstatic if a player is around the 70 game mark in games played.
And some of the highest salaries are approaching $70 million a year

So essentially a million a game.

This is a top of the garbage heap comment

Amazing player that has embraced the market. Those endorsements will keep coming, as they should. Excited to see him with the C this year.

It’s a one off thing due to his high signing bonus this year. He won’t be anywhere near 20 mill next year.

On a sad note, that’s significantly lower than most other well known sports

McDavid makes more in off ice earnings fwiw. The difference is Matthews has a massive signing bonus in the first year of his contract vs McDavid being at the tail end of a deal that was signed in what… 2017?
