Was looking at our faceoff stats and so far this year we've been significantly worse than in prior years.

Koko is at about 46% while he's been above 51% every other season here.
Staal basically at 50% which is obviously low for him.
Aho at 52.5% which is lower than last year but generally close to what he had been before that
Drury doing great at 56%.

By far the biggest surprise though is just how bad Jarvis has been in the dot. Obviously he's not a C but he had been around 45% before this year, so far this year he's at just 24% and that's with the 5th most faceoffs taken on the team. I may be wrong but I thought he was working even more on faceoffs this offseason with the plan to have a reliable righty to take faceoffs this year since all our Cs are lefties? If so, early results are not paying off lol. But I have patience and think he should turn it around eventually with Rod's continuous coaching. I think every single C we've had come through here has improved in the dot significantly over time under Rod. But it was interesting seeing that.

Yeah, last night, Kooch was tested early and looked great. Made some great stops before the 5-on-3. Then had a massive screen on that 5-on-3, leading to the goal against.

The 2nd one was probably stoppable with better positioning, but considering the team in front of him failed to clear the zone at least twice in the 15 seconds prior to the goal, I'd say it was an overall team failure.

The 3rd goal probably falls into that category as well. Bad enough to allow a pass into the slot like that, but then to puck watch and abandon the guy right next to PK, just oof. But PK also bit hard on the guy coming down the slot, so...

The 4th one is hard to judge. It's a horrendous turnover by Chatfield, and a shot that initially looked non-threatening, but if TK tipped it (and I think they eventually gave him credit for it), not a lot Kooch could do.
That 4th one he played poorly though. Even if it's tipped, his fundamentals weren't great when it comes to the 5 hole and stick position. I agree on the horrendous turnover by Chatfield and the tip making it not necessarily the goalies fault though.

Given that it's Kotchetkov, we should just be happy he had his stick at all.

Team is going great with the current lineup so RBA will probably not make any changes.....but.....

One that I would suggest would be swapping Jarvis & Svetch. Both of them look a little lost on their current lines.

Yup. At some point, the excuses are going to have to stop, and he's going to have to start making more saves. As of now, he's looked like exactly what he's paid to be, which is a pretty good backup.

Is Jarvis' shoulder really fully healed? Will it eventually need surgery? I wonder.

This is some certified rockstar shit from Necas. I could watch it all day and never get bored.

In the past how many times would Marty have lost the puck between game time 1:28 and 1:22? Just those six seconds shows that he's improved his stick handling, his balance, his skating has always been amazing, and his decision making to not make a complicated pass but just keep things going since there was not a better play to make. If he can make more plays like those six seconds which he's been doing more regularly this year, this hot start can be somewhat sustainable (90-100 pts instead of 140). I'm proud of the entire team on the ice but Marty does deserve extra praise for more than just the goal.

Not in this video but I also want to applaud how hard he works to get back on defense. That hasn't gone unnoticed either.

And conveniently the NHL has no all star game this year so Necas will again get shafted if he keeps up this start.

Clearly the NHL wants to protect McDavid in the fastest skater ;)

I didnt realize that there was no all star game with the 4 nation stuff. I assume there are roster bonuses for being an all-star? If so, I assume they'll have to publish a paper all-star team.
