Does it really matter if we don't win the division?
In retrospect, no.

We are 10 points ahead of the Demarcation line (Playoff cutoff line...Isles are occupying the 2nd Wildcard spot) and while this looks like a nice healthy lead (which it is), it would be prudent for the Devils to hopefully turn things around sooner rather than later.

They can't let things snowball.

I'm no longer concerned with the Division anymore.

I just want the playoffs but we won't get there if the Devils don't win games. :dunno:

Here's hoping that the game against Florida ends with a much-needed win.

How did Holtz get 15 minutes tonight?! Did someone else get hurt lol

I'd have taken the under if you gave me 7 as the over-under
and i love it. the finally played with 4 lines again. he even got pp1 time. they put him in a position to succeed. i hope this isn't a one game thing.

Hilarious L. It was guaranteed the second I stepped in the arena. Drunk and furious.
maybe we can package you with severson.

you are lucky the rangers are set at rhd with fox, schneider and trouba.

"We got goalied"
"Refs blown call cost us momentum"
"Sevo turnover cost us the game"
"Sorry Lindy"

If the playoffs started today, we'd get swept. The total lack of D and secondary scoring is costing us, not playing a full game is costing us, the rest of the league figuring us out is costing us. We're literally relying on Jack Magic for wins now.
Lol the things you’re pointing out have been an issue for a few games, following an entire quarter of a season when they weren’t an issue. We have a much larger sample size of them being a pretty darned good team than of them being a mediocre one. What do you think is gonna happen, they’re gonna be the opposite of what they showed for 25 games for the entirety of the rest of the season?

Here’s a crazy take: they’re probably not as good as they seemed during the streak, and not as bad as you think they are now.

Get a grip, people. Seriously.

there’s a lot to be happy about with that game - it’s much easier loss to swallow than the previous 3 because they played their game and looked like the team they were in november.

there’s a middle ground between “the team is in a death spiral” and a snarky “you didn’t really expect them to go .800 the rest of the way did you???” if they don’t play well for a long stretch it’s ok to be concerned. yesterday was a good step in the right direction and hopefully they can take momentum. keep the lines together and hope for an offensive breakout because it’s due.

one thing i don’t like is that they didn’t put enough traffic at all in front of the net. how many of their shots were rebounds? how many were screened? when you’re getting goalie’d you have to fight for garbage goals and that’s kind of missing from their game

Given how this team has played the last 6/7 years. I Wouldn’t say that .People are rightfully worried that we are going to revert to playing like shit and be inconsiquencial.
No more post game talk about needing to play harder . Go out there and do it.
Good teams figure out how to win when they are getting goalied. We are not a top team anymore and that’s what’s passing me off. We were …. and now we are ….I’m not sure what the shit we are because we haven’t won for awhile now.
rightfully?

did the devils get caved in for 50 minutes per game? did their break out passes consistently find opponents in the neutral zone?

this team is nothing like the past teams we have seen to struggle to losing seasons. even last years team wasn't anything like that. last year the devils didn't defend well against the rush and they got zero goaltending. this are the two main improvements, which factor into the great start to this season. the rest was already observable last season. it's way off to call this season result so far a fluke.

Gotta love the severson dope head play in the last fraction of the third period

f***ing moron

I can’t say I will be sad when he goes

Severson is that guy that thinks it’s ok because there’s 50 some odd games left as opposed to being upset that he contributed to extending the losing streak

Sevs : "I'm an offensive player trying to make plays"

Me : "YOU'RE A F'N DEFENSEMAN, YOU KNUCKLEHEAD!! DID YOU FORGET THAT?"

This guy gets it. I saw this coming from a mile away. And it’s only going to get worse. Looking at the schedule for the next month gives me an aneurysm. We’ll be on the outside looking in by early February. I’m sick of this shit.
good to know that rangersdoggo lives a mile away from the prudential center. we find you. you can't hide anymore.

Glad you’re back! Thought you said you were gone until they won games. Would have been a shame to lose another poster this way! :D

Not sure about that one. Narrowly losing a couple games you should be winning isn’t actually remotely predictive of anything to come in the postseason.

I've decided to give up on the Division dream or whatever.

@NJDevs26 brought up a good point.

If we win the Division but lose in the 1st round, would that be acceptable? OOF!

When he puts it like that, it makes me feel kind of silly to just up and leave when the going gets tough.

Right now I'm going to be rooting for the Devils to turn it around, and for any team that's facing the Rags and Isles (both teams that are occupying the Wildcard spots).

Division winning teams don’t lose to bottom feeders. A team good enough to win the division figures out ways to stop a multi game losing streak and how to score goals when the other goalie is in his game.

i really wonder, who will win the metro. most likely none this season.

The Bruins aren’t going to sustain their current pace either. If we’re lucky this is the start of a slump for them, right in time for next week’s games against them.

can you next time define all the conditions before hand instead of moving the goal post, when proven wrong?
When other good teams lose to bad teams it’s because they got goalie’d and injuries, and there’s a vast majority of reasons that make the loss acceptable or explainable. When we do we just suck.

but they were not on a four game losing streak and nicknamed 'devils'.

Am I the only one who thinks the ESPN power rankings and win likelihood % is more credible than these?

If there's a graphic it must be based on fact.
i give you a like, if you promise to not post during the playoffs, when the devils make it.

deal?

In his defense I’m guessing Severson’s never been more sure about that either.

Severson and Hamilton have atrocious numbers together over the last 2 seasons, it’s never good to see the two together.

My guess is that this is because most of their shifts are accidental, when one guy changes and the other can't.

Exactly. Does anyone seriously believe the Devils are the second-best team in the league?

At one point they had "swept" Canada. Conveniently without playing the best team in Canada.
They played the maple leafs twice. Beat them once and got ref balled in the second one. Do you watch the games? I'm asking a serious question.

yeah teams go through periods of poor fortune. lets be honest. they played well enough to beat dallas, Ny and Phil.. it just didn't happen.

The Dallas game was weird. I didn’t think the devils played all that well, they seemed quite impotent offensively coming off the back to back and not rolling four lines. But Dallas wasn’t doing much either so they were still very much in that game anyway. They lost on a stupid brain dead play to end a period. Just like they lost on a stupid brain dead play last night.

Hockey is such a crazy sport. If Jack converts on that penalty shot to make it 4-1 against the rags, they win that game and the crazy “death spiral” panic would be a lot less right now.

Severson is playing his way out of town! We might as well keep him until the end of the season because what he's going to bring in return is getting worse every game.
