I dont like to think like this. And I would certainly say it very well (most likely) could be coincidental.

But his play fell off enormously after his day with the Cup... he went from a legit #4 Dman still to a replacement level player in a few months.

Now, that can happen to players at age ~32-34 anyway, it usually does...

but the fact of the matter is that in 2021-22? He was on paper the same player he had basically always been... a ~30 point, solid, 2nd pairing guy. (aside from the ~3 seasons where elevated play to legit top pairing level.) 2022-23 onwards? Not NHL level play.

I especially liked the one last night where he:

Pushed York's stick away accidentally while York was trying to pick it up.
Lost his own stick second later.
Then tripped over his own stick.
Then tentatively half-tried to block a shot at the circle.
Annnd gave up on the play with no stick, miles out of position, leaving an EN tap-in the result.

Someone needs to add Yakety Sax to that sequence.

could Ginning be any worse than Johnson? You could of played Ginning instead of making this stupid trade and the difference would be zero. Would Ginning struggle? Probably, but it’s still better than making this stupid trade.
