Flyers terminating Ryan Johansen contract for material breach

Going to be interesting to see how this unfolds. And if there is a grievance settlement, will the NHL and PA require that Nashville be responsible for half of it.

SPCs say a team retaining salary are responsible for the negotiated % of Player Salary and Bonuses. It does not say the team is responsible for any other financial fallout or costs associated with the contract.

Would a grievance settlement be treated as Player Salary is the first question. Even then, so long as the NHL and PA agree they can ignore what the CBA says when crafting a settlement and assign a % to Nashville even if settlement payments aren’t officially Player Salary.

I wonder if this can get resolved in the next 8 weeks before the season begins.

Preds fans hoping for an additional $4mil in cap room...though zero confidence that our GM has any clue what to do with it.

I wonder what possible justification they have for this process taking over 6 months to reach this point? It was August 20th when Philadelphia terminated him. Now granted, the Cap space didn't actually turn out to mean much of anything to either of Philly or Nashville. But what if it did? :dunno:

Still no update eh?
It might have been timely, given the TDL is almost here. :eyeroll:

It's not exactly critical atm for Nashville to know if they have the extra Cap space or retention slot open before the TDL... but... you'd think there would have been ample time to have cleared this all up a lot sooner.
