After the 2018-19 season, if Lehtera continues to have an NHL job, the histrionics displayed here were likely overplayed. Ditto for a guy like AMac, if he after this current contract is paid in the $3.5+ million/yr range and plays more than 16 minutes a night, as a fan base our critiques were misplaced. I'm willing to reckon Lehtera will be out of the league, and AMac will make less than $3.25m and average less than 15 minutes a night on his next team (unless Hakstol is named the coach of that team, but then I won't really care because I'm dancing on sunshine.)
You're ignoring age, Read went from solid 3rd line forward to AHL in 2 years (yes, he played well on the PK, but at ES was totally useless, 19g, 9:41 ES, 1-0 1, on the 4th line).
Lehtera is a 4th line winger, he wasn't good, but he wasn't awful,
Lehtera - 62g 2-5 7; CorsiRel -1.5, GF/GA/60: 1.6/2.2; E +/- -3.2
Laughton - 81g 9-10 19; CorsiRel 2.0, 1.6/2.5; 3.1
Read - 19g 1-0 1; CorsiRel -0.5, 1.0/1.7; -0.8
Leier - 39g 1-4 5; CorsiRel 2.2, 1.5/2.7; 1.8
Weise - 46g 4-4 8; CorsiRel -4.4, 1.2/2.1; -5.6
2016-17
Read - 63g 12:14, 7-9 16; +3.6, 1.9/1.6, +0.6
Weise - 64g 11:54, 7-6 13; +2.9, 2.4/2.2, +7.0
Cousins - 60g 10:47, 5-9 14; +1.8, 1.7/2.1, +2.0
PEB - 82g 10:09, 4-3 7; -5.6, 1.6/1.6, -3.9
Luby - 47g 9:01, 4-2 6; -2.5, 1.8/2.0, -3.6
VdV - 81g 9:00, 6-9 15; -5.7, 1.4/1.8, -3.3
Read and Weise went from marginal 3rd line guys to bad 4th line guys.
