There is a very real likelihood that their goaltending absolutely implodes. Ersson and Fedotov carry massive amounts of risk. Very good teams have their seasons sunk by goaltending. A low end bubble team with an all but assured bottom 3-5 PP? And people in hockey always overreact to it: fired coaches, blaming the defense (true or not). Nothing sinks morale faster. Of course, we'll have to deal with the overcorrection. But that's the most likely way they pick 5-10.

The 2020-2021 Flyers were pretty much bang average everywhere but goaltending which was god awful & sunk them otherwise. Otherwise being average everywhere else probably would have been enough to get them into the playoffs even if they didn’t have a particularly high ceiling beyond it. But you weren’t allowed to criticize Hart back then so it got blamed solely on the defense & other goalies.

Flyer fans are especially good at blaming the goaltending for all their misfortunes

The Cutter Gauthier fiasco probably set the rebuild back about 5 years. I’m not joking. Drysdale is a huge downgrade and then saying that you couldn’t draft a “smaller” d- man like Buium because you already have smaller d-men like . . . Drysdale is just laughable. Does Briere realize how idiotic this appears? Probably not.

Only because their rebuild plan is garbage. When Cutter was drafted, the entire rebuild hinged on him. Then, Michkov forced his way to them and they miraculously got a second piece. Could you imagine if that didn’t happen?

Five reasons why they could pick in the top 5 in 2025
1. Players quit on Torts
2. Goaltending
3. Other teams in the east have improved
4. No Walker to solidify the D and help them get off to a fast start
5. Lack of depth and top end talent at center

Five reasons why they’ll screw up a top 5 pick
1. Briere
2. Fatso
3. Their obsession with size
4. Their obsession with players who fit their “culture”
5. Clarke

Rolling the same roster that was heavily rumored to be fully over Torts shit is going to be interesting. There is still time to trade Frost and Farabee though

Lindros injuries and parents
Tertyshni
2007 Draft Lottery
Emery injury for playoff run
Pronger injury
Nolan Patrick injuries
Lindblom cancer
Morin (plus Allison, Laberge, etc.) injuries
Ellis injury
Gauthier situation

I'd say the team has had a plethora of horrific luck, made seem far worse by years of over-aggressive poor decisions

Lindros trade (??)
Brind'Amour
unwillingness to take Europeans
Zubrus, Gagne, and Williams all hitting the NHL ASAP
Sharp
Bob and Bryz
Richards and Carter
Patrick over Makar/Heiskanen
etc etc etc, i'm sure you can add dozens

I've heard for years that all the "bad luck" isn't tied to management, that it's stuff that could happen to any team.

But it isn't a coincidence that it happens to our team so much instead of other teams.
It's such bad luck to have a medical staff that keeps telling your concussed superstar to rub some dirt on it and get back out there.

It will be bad luck too if there are long term effects of Drysdale playing through an injury. Nothing the Flyers could do, he wanted to play so you have to let him even if it's bad for him in the long run.
