Why? Hathaway didn't do anything wrong. He gave McCabe a straight up fight and didn't drive his head into the ice that I saw.

Some thing Hathaway kicked him on the way down. Personally I don't think it was the case.

there are not really too many "clear" messages sent in the NHL though. And that message kinda said "I am stupid".

Now. For example. If the Leafs had kept Kadri...that would have been a message...that they respected the only player on their squad enough at the time responding back against casual playoff thuggery. Those were the times messages were required. Tonight? Not so much.
