Friedman: Flyers interested in Nicolas Hague

So what do you think he can be "had for", and to whom?

Who isn't really that simple. With the cap inflation, I can see around $3M, give or take.

Don't see Vegas wanting to match that given their cap situation. Especially not if there's any truth that they want to go after big fish on July 1st. They'd take the 2nd and use it as TDL ammo.

Montreal can probably do like they did with Barron/Carrier and Trade Struble + 3rd for Hague and play him on the right side to replace Savard...
How is he on his offside ? We are hearing he is doing good.
Hugues's inner agent will probably sign him to a good deal.

So you are saying he'll get $3Mish offersheet with a 2nd round pick still as the compensation?

Vegas shouldn't match, regardless. But I guess Hague's agent should get him more money than that, given the current Cap space open around the league. It could be different if Hague himself just likes a certain city/situation that much more than another, granted. But without any insight into that, there WILL be teams ready to pay him more. Doesn't mean he has to take the max offer he'll get, true.

Struble+3rd is probably worse than his default offersheet 2nd return, though? :dunno:

2nd round compensation is $2.34M - $4.68M, so yeah.

There is no default offersheet though, he has to sign one, it has to beat what VG would want to pay, and be in range of what the team wants to pay him.
Struble is an NHLer, a workhorse, and still young. More importantly to Vegas, he is cheap. He had a good stretch on the top4 last year on his offside with rookie Hutson on his left. He is legit, floor is 3rd pair. What is the floor for that default 2nd round pick ? What does it do now for the Knights ?

So... would York be available then?
I’ve heard he’s been available for months already. Or should I say, he has been looking for a change for months now, and Philly has said they’d look into it... With Tocchet coming in though, maybe he gets a chance to mend the relationship. Tocchet likes to ride Dmen though. We’ll see who his guys end up being in Philly. York might be right back where he’s been this past season. Looking for a change. We’ll know more if he files for arbitration.

As for Hague??

Throw out all the analytics. He’s entering his prime with a ton of big time experience, and he’s 6’5”. He’s the exact type who becomes a much better player on his second team with more defined opportunities. He’s just been stuck behind some Hall of Fame dmen in Vegas. Don’t think he’ll carry a pairing, in fact I know he won’t, but he’s gonna be a great role player in someone’s Top 4, playing with a top end partner. Probably a lot like Brayden McNabb has been in Vegas the last 5-6 years. Perfect example of what Hague is likely to be with his next team.

The most noise seems to be coming from Philly, but we’ll see. Montreal, Buffalo, Detroit and Pittsburgh are the teams we’re hearing about.

Probably a few more teams too. Tons of interest.

He does have some say in where he’s going to end up, because he does have those arbitration rights. If he doesn’t wanna go somewhere, he’ll make it known he’s going to arbitration and walking to UFA.

If I had to guess, I think he’s gonna end up in Philly IF it’s just picks involved. If prospects are in involved with a 2nd, I’d guess Detroit with something like Buium and a 2nd. Vegas does need bodies in their system who are close. That leads you to think it’ll be the team who offers the best prospect with a 2nd, or even a 3rd depending on that prospect.

Vegas is gonna have lots of options with Hague. That’s for sure. Even heard they might be trying to get a veteran Dman thrown into any deal, who has 1 year left on his deal, to take Hague’s minutes in Vegas.

We’ll see. Should go down this month. If it doesn’t, something’s up with Pietrangelo.

Curious what you’ve heard about York. Also what would his value be around the league?

There's been rumors Habs were interested in acquiring Nicolas Hague from Vegas.

What would it cost from MTL?

Xhekaj?

Struble + early second?

Your call?

I guess it would be for cap purpose from Vegas...

Not sure if serious

Like 80/20 probably. Tocchet has turned out a lot of bigly huge defencemen into legit guys. His system doesn't put a lot on their plate in terms of puck moving. It's all on the Wingers mostly, to get the puck out and carry play. Defencemen just have to be big, separate guys from the puck...and mash it up the wall so it's the Wingers problem now.
