Friedman: Flyers interested in Nicolas Hague

Not sure why there's so much antagonism towards acquiring Hague from Flyers fans.

He's pretty decent. Hasn't been able to prove he's a top 4 D due to the Knights insane depth on defense, but he's been solid.

I wonder if something based around Hague for Tippett could work for both teams.
My anecdotal observation was he’d been good in playoffs, but his advanced metrics are basically team worst for all D-man on VGK during regular and postseason the last couple years

He definitely fits the mold of a RikTok defenceman, still reasonably young enough to fit with the Flyers core, so that makes sense. Watch him go to Philly, and under Tocchet, paired with Ristolainen...they become a bonafide big minutes shutdown pair, just because.

Until Risto’s arm falls off again….

The only thing they would shutdown is the Flyers offense. The puck would be stuck in the DZ forever.

That's Rick Tocchet hockey baby. Put everything on the forwards to get the puck out and move it to the offensive zone. Or just get Quinton Hughes to do it. Whichever.

Maybe, but if they can't agree on a contract with York, it might be him that goes.

York is arguably the best defenseman on the Flyers. If they're scared to pay him $7m but are happy to pay Hague $4.5m, they're stupid as f*** and actively making their team worse.

Hague is fine, by the way. But the Flyers have Sanheim, York, Andrae and Seeler on the left. York is already a pretty good player and Andrae showed flashes of brilliant play this year. Trading off one and boxing out the other to make room for Hague is very dumb.

1000%. It would just add onto the stupid shit the organization loves to do.

Does Nic Hague happen to always leave his defensive partner and goalie hanging?

Robert Hagg’s signature move was going for the big check along the wall while forgetting that the opposition was in the zone with the puck.

Robert Hagg signed with Brynas SHL.
You will get that back when Tocc brings in juuslen

I swear his stock used to be very high back in 2020-2023 period

Last two years seems he's regressed or fallen out of favor a bit in VGK
Him and Whitecloud both. It's really puzzling to me. They were never *the* guys on that blueline but they were good enough at a time Vegas was fairly considered one of the best defenses in the league with room to grow. Instead of growing past the cup win, it feels like they're getting worse every year.

Yeah i think that was the VGK 3rd pairing but it was regarded as a good 2nd pairing in terms of level of play for them in the cup run

I had thought those two would grow to replace Martinez and McNabb for the VGK.

They got NH which replaced a need for a top 4 (got a top pairing D) D-man which may have held back one of those two developments.

Still interesting players to bank on

Could be mental for both of them.

Dirt cheap Struble is overpayment considering he wants 4.5 million for a 15 point defenseman. Plus we have plenty of size and more coming from the AHL.

I'm not sure why HuGo thinks a zero offense defenseman is important for us and particularly in todays NHL. We had one in Savard and most of us wanted him gone.

With the extra picks they have, it’s an obvious fit. Vegas may want actual prospects instead though, after trading so many away.

The Flyers also have to be careful, as that would give them 2 Dmen with arbitration rights, who likely win their cases. So they may have to overpay Hague and York this summer.

There’s lots of interest in Hague right now.
