Flyers fire John Tortorella, name Brad Shaw interim head coach

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Torts seems like a guy who has hit that stage in his life where he likes the idea of coaching but doesn't like the actual job of coaching.
You are exactly right. He has shown that. He has taken off the last weeks of seasons previously. He really should have stayed on TV where people could laugh at the stuff he says. He is like the girl on the dating app that shows hot swimsuit pics from 25 years ago but in person she is not that girl.

They had nothing to build off of last year.
They overachieved compared to their roster and were pushing for a playoff spot until the bitter end, basically. Briere has done a decent job of stockpiling assets but after a season like that, you should want to strengthen the group instead of deplete it further. The future looks fairly bright but he set them back unnecessarily imo, even though he's not a bad GM.

Are the flyers actually rebuilding though? Comcast won't like that , are they *Quietly* rebuilding without coming out and saying it?

They've been saying it on and off for the past couple of years. They just haven't been walking the walk. They try to have it both ways.

The people who they really won't say it directly to are the fans. They keep promising improvement without copping to the fact that they know they need a step back to go forward.

That's a result of so much of the smart fanbase tuning them out over the last decade. Most of the people who still buy tickets are the idiots they've groomed to just go "THEY HAVE THE BEST COACH THE PROBLEM IS ALL THE PLAYERS ARE p***yES GO SIGN SOME GUYS LET'S MAKE THE PLAYOFFS NEXT YEAR WHO CARES ABOUT DRAFT PICKS."

So they can't send out the "it isn't fun, but we've got to do it" letter to the fanbase. They just sent their remaining season ticket holders a letter pointing to all of their exciting young talent like Noah Cates (?) as reasons to forgive them for their price hike.

Comcast is the team's main problem.

Philly is like Detroit. Too proud as a franchise, too used to the idea of being good, and with too much of a fanbase that actually pays attention..to go into the tank for several years. Instead it's always a little rebuild here, some moves to make the team better, then some selling again. Can't settle on what to do because their priorities are conflicting.

The way I put it is the Flyers have convinced themselves they're the New York Yankees of Hockey but haven't realized they're actually Mets on Ice.

What the hell, in what way does that come even remotely close to Detroit's situation? They've been in a full on rebuild for a while, and before that, during the playoffs streak, they never did a single "little rebuild".

This was always the situation when Snider was in charge. It seems to be changing now, but slowly and awkwardly.

Who could've seen this coming? The guy that was a good coach 20 years ago ain't good anymore. Time has passed this guy a long time ago.
