Flyers fans, how do you assess Michkov rookie season ?

You cropped the percentiles which are 20-30% higher. But this is Kucherov’s Edge data last year:

His skating ceiling is clearly higher. And he’s in his 30s.

But Edge data isn’t telling you HOW they are skating situationally. Courtesy of @VladDrag , here’s some microstat data in small sample:

He isn’t a volume entry guy in small tracking sample. Tape tells a similar tale. It’s definitely something he lags behind in. I don’t know how that shapes up with regard to everyone penciling in production.

Isn't (wasn't) one of Torts' big things dumping the puck in? This could be a product of employing at 2003 style system. I think we would expect to see improved entry numbers next season (provided there is a non brain dead system in place)

I'm talking improvement, not an explosion. I don't think anyone is expecting Jack Hughes here

He often is stationary or holds up in the neutral zone to pass allowing (relying) on someone else to tranistion and enter the zone. His lack of stop/start speed leads him entering behind the play in these cases. I expect this to be less of a factor in the future, but he is better served with someone else carrying the puck in transition.

Honestly, better than expected only because of how much this coach staff was actively trying to hold him back.

Could have easily had another 10-15 PPP with literally any other coaches in the league instead of the disaster duo of Rocky and Torts.

Michkov doesn’t dump the puck in though. His controlled entry % is high, and he creates a lot when he does. He just doesn’t enter much period. I’d wager a decent amount are anticipating transitions and leaking (in a good way).

It probably improves, but my point is measurably he’s a very average skater today. My hunch is he’s pretty physically maxed, but who knows? It’s just weird how being a 90-100 point upside player because he’s that talented, without high end physical tools, is a negative. He will be Kucherov. He will have more top Hart finishes than Giroux. You know as much as anyone how important transition ability is to reach the highest of highs. In an ideal world, he’s playing next to a top end transition machine.

Dont think it is possible in this day and age... maybe back in the 80s and 90s but the only nations where the whole "age doping" has any merit is in Africa, but even so getting rarer.

I'd say better than expected.

He has the potential to be an elite player but he's a 20 year old young man who is in a new country and still deals with the language barrier.

He had all season at best top6 C material to play with, an abysmal PP coach and Torts.

So could several other players. With the right coaching then maybe the Flyers are not as bad as many think. Offensively at least.
