I believe a heel injury in 2009 or so severely limited his skating speed and acceleration. He was still fast afterwards, but clearly a step off his peak.

I feel like in Crosby's case you're heavily punishing a stupidly efficient stride. With his lower body strength, he gets himself places with few strides. It's freakshow shit the way he can just glide himself into the open while looking like he's not trying.
Giroux is more of a burner than he looks as well, but he's also always been a guy who thinks a hell of a lot faster than he skates. Michkov is another big brainer, but it's worth wondering (with what we've seen) if there are gonna be physical limitations. Being able to see the plays is one thing, being able to move where needed to make them happen is another
All the Giroux talk and comparisons I read are a bit odd, and I’ve followed him since Gatineau, he was nowhere near the prospect / talent Michkov is or will be. I know we all love the guy, but Michkov is without a doubt going to put up multiple 100+ point years he’s too intelligent and too talented. This guy has been setting records in every league he’s played in since he played competitive hockey, he obviously has to work on skating and conditioning but I don’t think a lot of people here realize what kind of prospect Michkov was and what he’s damn near barring injury going to become. I wouldn’t be shocked at all if he eclipses Bedard’s career. People here are selling him way short but not sure why, this is the guy for you to be excited about. Based off his play driving, if he was deployed correctly and the Flyers didn’t have a historically bad power play he’d be flirting with PPG as a rookie imo, watching him show what he can be already without Torts is extremely satisfying.

Bro.... he is in Flyers Land. They will not allow anyone to have better stats then the all time hero. He will be trained wrong, he will be benched, he will be scapegoated. We will have bad coaches, defensive first coaches, he will have bad Centers and bad all around linemates. The pressure from.the media will be stupid and not accurate and so on and so forth.
I like your optimism but its not realistic today. With Briere, Jones and Comcast gone i will share you optimism.
We’ll have to see, all I can be is optimistic, I can’t change teams and Michkov is my favorite prospect in the past 15 years besides McDavid. Comcast wants us all to suffer though, that was much is true lmao.
He can definitely be Kucherov. He's shifty & his on ice IQ is exceptional. It does require the rest of the playing roster to be upgraded & the right picks made by Briere in the draft & trades in the off season. He can still work on his acceleration with a skating coach. It will make him even more dangerous.

I think most of us anticipated what he’s doing. 60 points was a reasonable expectation given the hype and it looks like he’s going to slightly exceed that if he stays hot. He hit a couple walls, and that was expected as well. Now he’s got a full summer where he’s not dealing with unknowns.

Honestly, I think he’s exceeded expectations. You have to factor in the massive anchor that was Torts and is Rocky’s pp. Give the same roster modern, competent coaches and he’s easily sitting at 30 goals and near 70 points with 7 games to go.

I mean, sure, he can score… but if you look at the teams position in the standings it’s pretty clear he’s not a difference maker or someone you can win with.
Points are flashy and will get praise but the shutdown defensive play that wins you playoff games leaves a lot to be desired.

The kids a rookie?? lol what is this post. The entire team is a dumpster fire, there’s no chance Michkov was carrying this team to the playoffs as an 19/20 year old. Especially with all things considered, usage, scratching, etc.

I think this season has gone very well. He's experienced a hard ass coach. He's now experiencing a nice guy coach. He's been benched and he's been let free to be an offensive star. He's scored big goals and felt the fan love and he's experienced losses too. Learning the language and getting a nicely varied education in NHL hockey life. As it should be.

Hopefully he didn't falsify his birth certificate or anything goofy like people enjoy claiming happens in Russia so kids can boost draft spots by seal clubbing younger players. I have no idea if any of that is true or not. What I do know is that if he's 19/20 in this season, and racking up points the way he has in the situation he has, there aren't all that many comparables to lean on. Pretty much all the ones you have are quite good.
Something like 25-30 points in his age range is a clear success and he's done a bit more than that.

His skating ceiling is clearly higher. And he’s in his 30s.

He isn’t a volume entry guy in small tracking sample. Tape tells a similar tale. It’s definitely something he lags behind in. I don’t know how that shapes up with regard to everyone penciling in production.

Dont think it is possible in this day and age... maybe back in the 80s and 90s but the only nations where the whole "age doping" has any merit is in Africa, but even so getting rarer.
And even in Africa the digitalization of records is making it very hard now... if born in a city or a town basically impossible to cheat and not get caught... and Michkov is born in a major hospital in a city of a million people!

Honestly, better than expected only because of how much this coach staff was actively trying to hold him back.
He is 2nd overall in the league in total minutes among all rookie forwards and 3rd overall in the league in TOI per game played among all NHL rookie forwards. Ice time has not been an issue.
Weren’t some people suggesting this about Ovechkin which would mean he’s putting a 40 goal season at 41
