He’s great. He very obviously played great when he was coming off rest so conditioning will be #1 this offseason. If he can be consistently at his best he’s going to be insane. He also has another level when the games on the line or he’s playing a big name Russian.

He'll be putting up approximately 60 points while getting acclimated to a new country and still learning the language and then the Torts factor... a lot of lesser talented and less poised kids would have struggled.
Last but not least he has managed to stay healthy and kept himself in good condition, remarkable for someone coming of pneumonia last season.

Fantastic.

Despite not knowing the language, less minutes then other top rookies, lessons from torts, benchings, line changes, and being neutered offensively he still put up 50+ points in what was really a bonus season. The flyers lucked out by having him come over this year...imagine this season without him.

I can't wait to see him 2 years from now after figuring out his training, diet, language, and hopefully a decent coaching staff.

With the worst PP coach in NHL history and a coach that punished him for any and all creativity, he did quite well. I think he would have scored 70+ if he was given the same leash / ice time / usage as some of the other rookies / young star players. But the Calder is a pretty pointless award either way. The people who watch him play know what we have in him, he’s a franchise cornerstone type, hopefully his conditioning continues to improve this offseason. I personally wouldn’t trade him for anyone in his draft class.

I can see the path to him being a ppg+ player in his prime, maybe even 100 points in a season if he ever gets good linemates and a functional powerplay.

Which is as good as advertised. The above outcome might even be better than advertised, but he'd obviously have to reach that gear to be considered that.

I think he can be Kaprisov, not Kucherov, and that is still damn good. With the Flyers, you always have to worry he will never have linemates though

I’ve said this before, but how high Michkov’s ceiling goes comes down to skating. I’m talking the gap between franchise winger vs. 1st line winger. Someone like Kaprizov generally grades as a 75th percentile skater, via Edge data. Kucherov 80-90th percentile. Michkov is down around 50th, while being a bit smaller. So, Michkov might be a little more reliant on linemates to do some leg work. We see that now with a lot of his scoring touches: it’s chained line plays putting him in a situation rather than self-creation.

Then again, when Alex Bump is your top prospect, maybe these questions are meaningless.

Funny, but true… was just thinking, where would top prospect Bump rank in the Blackhawks system. Blackhawks are actually rebuilding, not just throwing the word around like the Flyers do. Would he crack the top 15? Last I looked, John Mustard was 15, I don’t think so

I was expecting/hoping for 20+ goals and around 60 points, so just as expected. With better teammates and coaches he could have had a really special seasson.

Luckily his stops/start speed can improve significantly with a few summers training. I am very curious how much quicker he will look come training camp

The fact that he's been able to come into the league and make the adjustment to NHL play as the slowest guy on the ice at any give time is honestly quite amazing. I really didn't expect him to be so damn slow, so I pulled back on my expectations for the year a bit but then he just went ahead and figured it out for himself anyways. As mentioned in posts above, his skating is the only thing between himself and superstardom.

He absolutely has that certain je ne sais quoi and we should all be feelings pretty damn thankful about it,

As for improving his skating speeds, if it can be done, Mich will do it. He's got that fire burning inside him that separates certain players from the rest. Absolute gamer.

Crosby's never been the fastest and it hasn't hurt his career. Giroux the same. As long as you think faster than 90% of the players you share the ice with speed isn't so important.

Crosby was one of the fastest skaters in the league in his prime. What. He’s upper quartile as a geriatric.

He’s probably physically peaked so it’s not a growth thing. Maybe someone can work on technique inefficiency, like lengthening his stride. It’s possible this is just what his skating is. I actually think his stop/starts are fine, his edges good. It’s more his 2nd/3rd gear are flat.

I was referring to initial explosiveness. He has a slow first step, which can take a huge jump with explosive traning
