It’s ironic that Florida’s current head coach Paul Maurice coached Ben Chariot and GM Chevy couldn’t afford Ben Chariot and he ended up with the Habs who subsequently traded him to Florida for their 2023 No. 1 pick.

How did HuGo envision that last season’s best NHL team would be playing just barely above .500 this season which could accord the Habs a top First Round draft pick?

Now, Panthers GM Zito and Maurice are in a quandary. They need to shed some high priced players and if they do that, they’ll lose more games which will delight HuGo.

It's ok if this pick will be only between 10-16. We just hope that Florida don't make the playoffs and the chance is really there that they are going to miss that. At 12-16, good players will be available like Riley Heidt, Colby Barlow, Matthew Wood, David Reinbacher, Mikhail Gulayayev, Calum Ritchie, Andrew Cristall, Ryan Moore, Ryan Leonard, Gabe Perreault, even Pellikka so we are in very good hands.

Habs need top 9 with their pick because it's will be between Bedard, Carlsson, Fantilli, Michkov, Benson, Smith, Dvorsky, Yager and Sale.

Agreed. We have to reset expectations on this.

When the trade happen, everyone expected a pick between 22-32. So it's really good if Florida will miss the playoffs. So far in the standings, the only team they can reach to make playoffs is Capitals. Penguins have games in hands. That will be close by the end of the season, but I expect that Habs are going to have top 16 pick and it's really great to have in exchange for Ben Chiarot.

Next game is a must win one, then we can be back at sucking again. We have the opportunity to get in their head, best way to do it is to kick their ass big time, I want a carnage!

If we had lost yesterday, sure.

But we need a top 7 pick more than we need the Florida pick to be lower. Need another massive losing streak here.

Florida is desperate. They are pushing for their lives at the moment. It's possible they manage to make the playoffs, but they've got to be among the most desperate teams in the NHL right now. Hard to play desperate forever...
Still 35 games left, thats alot of hockey, especially without Bobrovsky/Knight... It only takes 2 losses in a row to get back at .500.

Get another 1st, and package two of the three first-rounders to move up for a targeted talent.

Habs future is not doomed w/o a Top 6, but it’s a definite wrench in the spokes, IMO.
