Florida Panthers will contend for years!

Jones and Tkachuk were traded for after they signed their contracts no?
Tkachuk was not signed yet and was traded with rfa rights.

Jones was retained and was an trade. Trading a back up goalie using cap space that can be a future #1 to make room for Jones.

Let's not be ignorant on Sm Reinhart signing much below market value or Carter Verhage.

One could argue Barkov as well.

Goalie Bob is the key for me. How long does he hold up as an elite playoff goalie (which he clearly still is)?

Like all powerhouse teams well into their prime, they’ll have big decisions to make starting this summer.

But Zito has proven a really good GM (weird Chiarot bust aside…it still hurts my head that such a good GM made that absolute bomb of a trade…though it didn’t end up really hampering them) and being in South Florida and a Cup winning environment doesn’t hurt.
I think that trade he kinda rushed into after Ekblad injured up his knee shortly before the trade deadline.

They’re dirty as f*** and calling what they do “hockey” is generous. I was fine with ‘em last year, even kinda happy because Reinhart and Okposo, but their bullshit this year is bad for the game. Sorry, just being honest- you gotta knock goalies out to win series, that’s not really a legit win in my mind.
I’m sorry, this narrative is just a load of crap. A Total load.

Their style of play isn’t very conducive to being long term contenders I’d say. They seem like a very physically imposing group of guys surrounding a HOF goaltender. Guys like bennett and ekblad will not be very good in 4 years imo. I feel that they are a type of team that burns very bright but flames out fast.

the one factor is Barkov turning 30... could age very well obviously but started to play big minutes since he was 20 years old, raking injuries all the time.. (but that reduced his mileage...), you never know, can be an other Kopitar, can be an quicker decline.
His style of play is something I think will not fall of the cliff even when skating gets worse. I reckon he will do fine, similar to Kopitar, Bergeron or Jagr.

Outside of injuries, they could be the first dynasty to come along in a long time.....after this year they will challenge at least a couple if now few years.....

Well it’s like they say… you either die a hero or live long enough to make @TheDawnOfANewTage hate you and not think your wins are legitimate.

I don't buy the low taxes argument--because it directly conflicts with the "once a player signs a big contract they play with less urgency" narrative. If that were true, then the additional financial security of playing for a no-tax team would create an effort gap.
Across the board, players who sign in Florida, whether top liners like Reinhart or unknowns (at the time) like Forsling, play their best hockey as Panthers.
Another narrative that I have been skeptical about is that the Captain has a big impact on his teammates. However, it does appear that training and playing with Barkov brings out the best in 19 other players.
My guess is that no single narrative explains much of the Panthers' success. Just a longtime recipe: good players, playing hard, complementing each other leads to championships.

They are well positioned to be a contender for years.

My Oilers are not so lucky. Especially after losing Holloway and Broberg, it's a very old squad. In particular, I worry about our 2nd tier of forwards getting up there: Kane, Hyman, Nugent-Hopkins. There's also depth like Henrique and Brown, but that should be easier to replace.

I'm a bit optimistic about the defense, although Ekholm is the best overall D and he's 35.

Their core group of forwards are under 30. That's certainly in their favour. The likely hood of Bennett and Ekblad leaving as UFAs will impact them negatively. Their lack of draft capital will also start, at some point, to impact them. The don't have a pick until the 4th round this year. They don't have a first or third next year. Didn't have a first from 2022-2024.

In a way they are like a throwback to the 2007 Ducks, they are a BIG mean machine and can score.
Slow Tkachuck is like their version of Prime Perry.

Might be the worst excuse I’ve heard

There is something to it though. I’ve come to realize, you need skill to get through the regular season because you can’t rely on physicality night in and night out. But once the playoffs start, you need numerous physical 2-way players to succeed. It’s a very hard recipe to find the right balance and combination for success.

They will contend for many years but they will eventually run out of gas. They've played the most hockey over the last 3 years of any team in the NHL. 100+ games a year is a lot of hockey. Eventually the miles will start to catch up to them.

That is a really dumb comment and I can only assume you just started watching Hockey recently.
Actually played my whole life and watched longer than you I promise..it's not a comment, it's an opinion. A dumb comment would be that panthers will walk over any team in west lol west is better this year. Canes are the weakest conference finals opponent ever. An average leaf team with no experience, depth and bad star players took panthers to 7 games. Everyone kissing panthers ass will be in for a rude awakening

I could only assume that you only watch eastern conference. Vegas, Dallas, edmonton, Colorado and winnipeg would all of kicked toronto and canes ass. Took panthers 7 to beat average leaf team

Looking at their cap-situation - they have 19M in cap for next season and Ekblad, Bennett and Marchand are the only important players to sign. Ekblad wont get a raise atleast. The team is set for years. They will probably be contending for the next 5yrs atleast. They have 5/6 Top6 players on long-term contracts for 40M until 2030. Their Top 2 D:s for 12.75M combined also.

Barkov 10M UFA 2030
Tkachuk 9,5M UFA 2030
Reinhart 8.625M UFA 2032
Verhaeghe 7M UFA 2033
Lundell 5M UFA 2030

Jones 7M UFA 2030
Forsling 5,75M UFA 2032
Kulikov 1.15M UFA 2028
Isn't Bobrovsky already 37?
