GDT: Florida Panthers at Ottawa Senators - 2PM - TSN5/RDS - Kitty Kats Katerwauling in Kanata - Ain't No Tkachuks Edition

We were more outplayed by TB than Florida.

Good teams win similar to the last 2 games we have won.

We completely outplayed great teams in the beginning of the year and lost to excellent goaltending. The scales are being balanced, is all.
We were? Yikes! I didn't get to see that game.

Those are awesome stats for our goalie, that's the difference between making the playoffs or not. Long time since we had good goaltending like this. Leevi stepping up while Ullmark was injured and Forsberg cold might have saved our season too. Looking forward to see him keep developing. I know some wants to keep Forsberg as the backup, but I think Leevi is ready and he will cost much less for the next few years which allows us to spend more elsewhere to improve the lineup.

I thought the team looked tired.

There were plays where the puck was in reach, or they could go for an offensive chance, but they dumped and changed, or held off from fighting for pucks.

I get trying to play conservative, but they looked like they were out of gas. Until Highmore blew through those two Panthers...I think the entire rink was surprised. I know I was.

We'll see the impact in about 4 hours.

What I will say to the team's credit is that they scored the game's first goal in both match-ups. We saw last year what it was like to have our goaltending tandem leak the first goal on the first or second shot of the game. How many games did we dominate but having given up the lead first, it didn't matter in the end?

The goalies deserve most of the credit, but it isn't a win unless someone scores and Ottawa scored first which can be huge.

Perfect road game basically ;)

They could still sign him, but the problem is that he is pricing himself out of here. They can get Merilainen on low one-way money if it is a short term deal. Forsberg is probably getting another 2M+ type contract.

The other thing is that Forsberg is a UFA. Unless the Senators offer him a very compelling contract, if 2-3 teams put something like 2.XX x 2-3 years on the table, is he going to Ottawa where the starting job is taken and the goalie of the future is knocking on the door, or is he going to a team where there is a path for him to play 40-50 games and finally cash in as a starter?
If Forsberg is willing to sign for $1M he will be here next season; he won't. At $2M he would still likely want to try his hand at UFA. At $3M he might stay; but I think he can get more at UFA.

Man these games are so much more fun to watch with TSN's "A" team. Gord Miller is the goat, Mike Johnson rules, and Claire Hannah is tops with Methot.

Edit: whoops I think Noodle's the color guy today but both are excellent tbh.
The only better option is when James Duthie is on. He comes from Ottawa I believe so not a Sens hater like so many others.

Gord Miller is okay. Johnson is usually rather bitter. Claire Hanna is a bimbo who is still trying to figure out how to say Cozens name.

You believe the Lightning and Panthers are 2X better than the Senators?

We are 2 points behind the Panthers and it actually looks like we may pass them.

Again, the Panther roster was very depleted, and quite frankly, we shouldn't be dominated like that by anyone.

A few of you are getting so upset by a few of us pointing out the obvious.

You can't expect to be out-shot and out-hit 2-1 and expect to win a playoff series. We will play good teams in the playoffs, and better be ready to have some push back and play to the pace and intensity of playoff hockey.

I'd rather win by playing poorly, than play well and lose. Especially in the Playoffs.
You can't expect the team to play lights out every single game, there is an opponent in front of them and on some nights the opponent will play better.
The most important thing is the W, no other metric matters at the end of the day.
When this is team is on they match up well against almost every team in the league, except maybe Edmonton, Colorado and Tampa because these three teams have generational talent.

Agreed! Sometimes we get dominated, and sometimes we dominate the other team, and still other times the game falls somewhere in between.

It’s a credit to us that we can win the game regardless of the level of domination in either direction.

Goalies are part of the team, and when one steals a game it’s cause for celebration!

Anyways, we’re going to have to win games we don’t deserve to win if we’re going to become a contending team….. Good rule to get some practice in my opinion! :)
