Prospect Info: Florian Xhekaj

LX...yes, it's Little X because he's only 6'4" and a measly 200 pounds to big bros 245...

Arber was on a broadcast and made a statement that his brother always played angry, well, on the 15 games I watched, every other shift he was picking a fight with someone. He's not at Arbors level at fighting ability, or Anderson, but he's as good as Guhle and better then Pezz.

He's NOT going to be able to sustain that level of violence, actually, that level of penalties without SMarty benching him. I'm not sure if he needs to sustain that anger that makes him a menace around the net and reining him in will diminish his effectiveness.

What I do know is that we have our very own young Tom Wlson with less dirty play.

Remember the movie were the Gladiator asked the audience if we are entertained? We will be with LX.

Frankly, I thought Beck was more effective in his short stint with Montreal than he has been since his return to Laval. Go back and watch the LA game and you can see Beck use his explosive speed to beat Doughty wide. Once Beck acclimates to the pace and intensity of the NHL game, he will be more than fine.
Probably better in the NHL because his line mates are better than those in the AHL.

Tom Wilson without the suspensions...

Guaranteed he's coming back around 220 plus pounds of menace next season. He's going to be too good for the AHL so we will see him before Xmas.
I honestly wonder what the C-Line will be next year, and we won't have an answer to that before we see if Hughes can acquire a genuine 2C, regardless of how he does it.

If it's via trade, we really don't know who might be going the other way from Kapanen, Beck, Newhook, Dach or other potential Cs for the Habs going forward.

Personally, once we've confirmed the acquisition of a 2C for Laine and Demidov, I 'd like to see a kid line of F. Xhekaj - Kapanen - Heineman to go with a veteran line of Anderson - Evans - Gallagher.

I believe that, with this lineup:

Caufield - Suzuki - Slafkovsky
Laine - 2C - Demidov
Anderson - Evans - Gallagher
F. Xhekaj - Kapanen - Heineman

(Newhook and Dach traded as part of a larger package for a 2C)

The forecheck would be the ultimate annoying sort of forecheck for the bottom-6.

There’s some truth to this as Laval has few players who can read, anticipate the play which would allow Beck to take advantage of his superior skating. Too often you see Beck accelerate to open ice awaiting the puck. Most Laval players just can’t read the play and by the time they recognize the developing opportunity, it’s too late. Which provides you with a pretty good indication as to which players have realistic NHL potential.

Savard is gone his contract is finished. Hopefully Matheson too via trade.

Hutson - Reinbacher
Guhle - Carrier
Xhekaj - Struble
Engstrom - Mailloux
Yeah, I saw that Savared confirmed my suspicions a few days ago and he will retire. I still think Xhekaj needs to evolve his role beyond tough guy to be successful. He is unlikely to be a pp player, but if he takes it seriously he could make himself indispensable by becoming a pk specialist who blocks shots, clears the net, and takes away passing lanes. And kicking butt at the right times.

Some ppl have some real hate for Mattheson. I don’t have a problem with him and I think he was a real good pick up in that Petry trade. But, if we trade him for a 2c of quality, that would work for me. But it has to be a real good c.

Math is still a top defenseman no matter how much some want to trade him.

Offensive defenseman take chances and obviously Math takes more chances then most. Most won't bite back but some will. It's part of the game.

The closest replacement we have for Math replacement in the sense that he can work both ends is Mailloux but he's a few years away...and possibly never. Or maybe next year. He's annoyingly up and down in his game. Several games ago he was EHCL fodder, a few games ago, NHL caliber.

Guhle may get there too offensively and he's got the defensive part down pat. I don't see him as a 60 point defenseman, but...possible.

Rein...we won't know until he hits NHL and deals with NHL speed and space.

So bottom line, Math stays for a few years until our young ones mature. Then we move on or move someone else in.

I paid attention to Mailloux and kept wondering why there were endless 2 on 1 on him and the rest of the defenseman. Until I paid attention to some of the players 200 ft game. What 200 ft game? They resembled a pack of heinas then a structured powerhouse.

Some are better then others but we don't have as many NHL ready players as some believe.

Take away Matheson’s 26 to 30 minutes per game that he plays and it would get quite ugly here rather quickly.

I think they keep Matheson..........for me, he is great until he plays too much, and the giveaways end up in our net.
We can't let all the vets leave, and have nothing but kids on the back end. Matheson will stay for some time guys....

He's useless on our LD we are completely log jammed, trade him and get a RD

How did the conversation go from Florian Xhekaj to becoming a Mike Matheson thread? Maybe we should talk about why the Habs didn't draft Michkov while we are at it.

LOL

As for Michkov...........................nah
