Why bother trying to win meaningless games? The time to fire Cappy and try to salvage the season is gone. Keep him around to help solidify as high of a pick as possible. No more 5th overalls, we need a Patrick or Liljegren that can step in and help Tavares next year. Otherwise he won't have much help. After the season, clean house and let the new management and coaching take over for the draft and FA period.

If you think the talent is currently in the organization you haven't watched these kids enough. Barzal and Ho-Sang are as close as we have to top talent and both have major flaws that need work. Everyone else is far off from making any sort of impact whatsoever and the current roster is medicore on their best night.

I don't know anything about Liljegren, but I think the only player that can help NYI next year is Nolan Patrick. The pick needs to be traded for help next year if NYI is not drafting Patrick, although I'm a huge Nico Hischier fan as well, and he brings what NYI needs more of (puck possession and elite mobility), but that is a discussion for another thread.

Regarding a coaching change, I wouldn't mind seeing Thompson getting a 50 game shot. I don't expect him to be retained and part of that is intentional, because this organization needs to bring in a young head coach to groom in Bridgeport. That is what any reputable organization is doing.

The best case scenario is Snow is ordered to sell as much as possible and the front office is completely cleaned out the day the season ends.

If the past is the guarantor of the future, a team led by Capuano usually finishes 4th or 5th worse (when they missed the playoffs). It will therefore be necessary to win the lottery.
