Flap on pants front hanging out - anyone else have this problem?

I have CCM pants that are similar to these:

They're actually an older model that they don't sell any more, but the basic construction appears to be similar.

There is a little flap that is behind the lacing and buckle. It hangs out when I skate - it actually bends back down over the lacing and sticks out, making it look like I have a weird protrusion coming from my stomach. No matter how tight or loose I cinch the buckle and laces, it always sticks out.

I've noticed that I'm not the only one with this problem - but it's always women who have it. My husband wears the same pants, but the flap doesn't hang out. I thought maybe it was that my pants were too small - but trying on the next size larger, it did the same thing. Since I've noticed other women have the issue, I'm thinking it has something to do with the hips, that perhaps the pulling of the hips makes the gap between the two sides of the elastic a little too stressed and that makes the little tongue flap out.

Anyone else have this problem? Does it bug you? What did you do about it? I've had people tell me I can just cut out the tongue, but I'm not sure that's such a good idea, not if it ruins the integrity of the overall pants. Or I could look for some pants that don't have the tongue at all, I have seen some online that look like that's not an issue but won't know until I try them on.

I have a pair of Easton pants with a HUGE stomach protector. It flops around as well. It looks almost like they know lots of people will cut them out - it's only held on with a short vertical stitch. It'd be easy to remove.

It's just soft padding (on mine - yours might be different) so I can't imagine it does very much. I am tempted to just remove it as it really does look sort of odd.

I'm a guy, and I've noticed that flap on my CCM pants seems to want to flop forward more than the flaps on other pants.

I suppose you could cut it, but I've been hit in the abdomen with shots a few times, and I like having the protection there.

that's what has stopped me from cutting it up to now - I figure there must be a reason that it's there. But if it's flopping open, if I get hit with a puck, it's probably not going to give me much protection anyway.

I just looked at it and it doesn't appear to be possible to cut it off - it's not just a flap, it's where the little bands are that the elastic tie weaves through as well. So cutting it off would pretty much ruin the pants.

You can see the flap on this image -

I had this same problem in my CCM pants ab protector as well, fixed it with a little extra canvas strap on top of the protector.

I had the CCM V09s and I used to tuck mine under and back in towards my stomach. It annoyed the hell out of me. CCM has corrected this issue as I now have their current U12s and the flap does not come up as high and no longer flops forward.

I will have to try those - I've been trying to tuck it under the very bottom of my shoulder pads as they overlap by about 1/2". But once I start skating, they move around and it comes untucked almost immediately. But the extra canvas might do the trick.

I wear Warrior Hitman pants and they have a MASSIVE "tongue" on them that flops out like crazy. Strange thing is that I've seen other Warrior pants that have the same tongue but with elastic strips sewed to either side so that it stays in place. I was thinking of doing this myself or having my Fiance do it for me.

My wife wears the U+ Fit09 pants and had the same problem. What I did for her was to put a fold in the tongue further down and re-lace it so the top doesn't come up so high.

Basically instead of the top row of laces going through the top loops on the tongue the second to top row of laces goes through the top. As the fold on the tongue is down the bottom near the pelvic protector she doesn't feel it.

Hope that helps.

The flap on the Warrior Franchise pants was really bad so I cut it off. If its attached you could always fold it over towards your stomach and throw some stitches in there.
