The more I think about it, the more it seems like this trade was of a similar archetype of the Hamilton + Ferland + Fox for Lindholm + Hanifin type trade.
The other side sold the guys at a low point. We sold our guys at a high point.
However, the difference though was that the Carolina trade was pretty even/close to market value, and then Treliving added value with the contract he negotiated with Lindholm and Hanifin.
Conroy seemed to pay well below market value for those guys for this Flyers trade. Value can swing in our favor depending on whether they improve and/or the contract negotiated this off season for Frost.
I "suffered" through the first 15 minutes of Briere explaining the reason for the trade. If I were a Flyers fan, I'm livid. The trade value received make sense if their guys were 26-28 years old and increased risk of drop off are high and untapped potential is basically zero. But that's not the case, so we got a heck of a deal. Basically 50% off for buying something that's open box. Briere's logic makes no sense to me, especially since we are aware he basically called Conroy and didn't stop until a deal was done. It didn't seem like he went out and tried to get the best price.
Another thing I noticed, I've never truly thought our team was truly slow, but watching these guys haul ass and get to some key zones on the ice quickly, I think there's huge potential of improvement in the system if we add more speed to the roster. I'm still confused by what Briere was thinking in discounting both guys so heavily.
I'm not going to gloat to Flyers fans, because they seemed to be dealing with the same management BS we've been dealing with. I feel for them. I thanked them for their donation and I hoped they, get off that crappy ride and have something to look forward to soon.
