I saw some highlights of Farabee and I don't think we have had someone who plays in front of the net like him since Chucky.

I agree he might be a great match for huberdeau line.

Hooray for the fire bee and freezer burn additions!

If that’s the case, Huby-Naz-Fara could be the way to go

And what did reaction is that exactly? Scramble to make the playoffs year after year and hope we make it out of the first round, if we do?
Been there done that. No thanks. That's a dead end road.
Drafting a franchise player wasn't a pipe dream. At the start of the season most thought the Flames had a legitimate chance of drafting top 10 in 2025 and after trading Andersson drafting top 5 in 2026. Chances of that happening now are getting slimmer by the minute. We got better but we are still far from being legit cup contenders. I think we're going in the wrong direction.
I don’t get this at all, so you think we are destined to be a bubble team? We are already a bubble team. With the 3rd most cap space in the league. With Wolf (rookie), Coronato (sophomore), Pospisil (sophomore) and all of Bahl, Farabee, and Frost 25 and under. With an under rated prospect pool that has Parekh, Brzustewicz, and Mews as potential high impact defenseman and Gridin, Honzek, Basha, as potential impact forwards. We still have an extra 50% top 3 rounds picks over the next 2 drafts.

So we are destined to be exactly where we are right now despite being year 2 of the retool?

Edit: To put it in perspective on the sheer amount of change we could have, even though it’s not overly realistic if we just trade Backlund we could sign Marner and Rantanen to matching 12M a year contracts, sign Zary and Coronato to matching 7M a year contracts, and have a cap compliant lineup that looks like:

Huberdeau-Kadri-Rantanen
Farabee-Zary-Marner
Rango-Frost-Coronato
Lomberg-Pospisil-Coleman

Bahl-Andersson
Hanley-Weegar
Solovyov-Pachal

Wolf

Morning skate has projected lines as:

Huberdeau-Kadri-Farabee
Coleman-Backlund-Coronato
Sharangovich-Frost-Pospisil
Lomber-Bishop-Klapka

which I like a lot
We are less than a month away from the 4th line I was asking for all summer of Lomberg-Pospisil-Klapka. It’s the perfect new age 4th line.

Huberdeau-Kadri-Farabee
Coleman-Backlund-Coronato
Zary-Frost-Sharangovich
Lomberg-Pospisil-Klapka

Nobody has paid attention to it, but we’ve already been 21st in offense (still not great) since the 1st of December. These additions could steer us back on track even further.

I think most of us were expecting the same ol’ “not good enough to make the playoffs, but not shitty enough for a decent pick” schtick, and it’s not as though it can’t still be that lol 🤷🏻
Sure but with or without this trade unless we played Vlad every game that's where we would be no matter what

I still want to get Hathaway back from Philly to replace Klapka on that 4th line

I really want to see Zary/Frost together with Rango, they're both skilled and shifty guys, with Zary having a little pest in him and Frost being more of a playmaker and then Rango is more of a shooter.

Guys I f***ed up and added Farabee in Fantasy. It’s 100% on me if he sucks

I'd you turn fire bee into fur by, you gotta use a furby avatar in shame!

If that’s the case, Huby-Naz-Fara could be the way to go

A Lomberg-Pospisil-Hathaway would make us the most hated team in the league, and we would love every minute of it.

I think with the addition of Frost, we should now seriously consider moving Backlund in the summer. Mantha going down and Kuzmenko ghosting hurt our offense, as well as poor underlying luck for some of our expected top scorers (Kadri, Rango, and Zary all still have on ice shooting percentages in the bottom 25 of the league), but a big problem we currently have is for the majority of the year each line has a guy who just can’t buy a point. Guys like Backlund and Pospisil do heavy lifting in other areas, but each of our top 9 forward lines have had to deal with one of Pospisil (26 point pace), Backlund (34 point pace) or Kuzmenko (33 point pace) most of the year. That’s one guy per line that operates about 33-50% worse than his line mates in production.

I do not see a future in which Klapper isn’t our de facto 4RW with top-nine upside. 6’8”, 236 lb forwards with his skill and speed don’t just grow on trees.

I'm not sure we trade Backlund, I'm not opposed to it, but I just don't think it happens. I think it's also important that he is still reliable defensively and his linemates tend to excel, in part because they can take more chances because of his defensive prowess.

I'm not a big fan of Klapka, he is skilled but he has a knack for taking bad penalties at important times of the game, like he did on Tuesday. If he can reign that in my opinion will change as well.

Re: Backlund, hard to see him not just riding off into the sunset. No disrespect to the man, but he doesn’t always seem to play with passion, so I can’t imagine that he’d find any the twilight of his career playing with another team. I think it’s likely he’ll retire if/when Conny decides it’s not in the team’s best interests to re-up him.

Re: Klapper, taking penalties is a part of the game, but he’s young yet and will surely learn to pick his battles better as he matures. His combo of size, speed and skill is far too rare and valuable to squander or let go to waste.

Sportsnet/tsn's continuous yellow journalism creating and trumpeting the term "mushy middle" has brainrotted swaths of fanbases

I think there’s 3 reasons I’d do it. First is we now have 4 top 9 centres. Kadri is the only one fit for top line duties. Then it comes down to Zary, Frost, and Backlund for the middle. That’s a log jam of names, and the other 2 at this stage of Backlund’s career are better in the O-zone. Second is his age. He’ll be 36 in just over a month, the fall off is going to get bigger and bigger every year, and he likely has 1-3 additional years left. The same people who are clamoring for getting rid of Andersson for asset management should realize we likely won’t have Backlund for a single game when the cup is the goal. Lastly, I just think he deserves the Iginla treatment. The guy has put in the work for our organization for 18 years. Let him name whichever team he wants to go to to chase a cup and try to make it happen. He deserves a shot at winning it all
