Confirmed with Link: Flames trade Pelletier + Kuzmenko + 2025 2nd, 2028 7th round picks to the Flyers for Frost + Farabee

I love Kerins as much as the next guy but surely there’s no one complaining about this deal because it potentially blocks our soon to be 23 year old former 6th round pick

Sure... the Flames won this trade and got better on paper but anybody besides me think Conroy is now cementing our future in middle of the pack of mediocrity because of this latest push to squeeze into a playoff spot? Seems like drafting a franchise forward (hopefully a center) is becoming more and more of a pipe dream now. Good enough to make the playoffs and maybe win a round or two if we play perfect hockey and get a bounce or two but no where good enough to win it all because of a lack of top end talent. I was hoping to fix that in the next few drafts but I think that dream is slowly fading away.

It's pretty clear with the way Wolf is playing that we aren't going to bottom out and get a top 5 pick, so not sure how this trade cements us in the middle of the pack of mediocrity? The most valuable asset we gave up is a 2nd round pick probably in the 40-50 range while acquiring two U-26 forwards who can provide us with more goal scoring than the roster players we traded. It doesn't make us a superpower but your reaction is making it seem like we traded a 1st for a 30+ UFA

Wish Pelletier well; great kid. But his position and skill set were definitely expendable with left shot prospects Basha, Battaglia, Suniev, Gridin, Kerins, Misa and Stromgren all advancing as prospects this year. So we get two more left shot forwards further down the line than Pelts and have the above group arriving in coming years.

It’s likely that none of the four 1st rounders we have in the next two drafts will be in the top-10, but that isn’t to say we won’t still get quality players with those picks. I don’t know if I would necessarily deem any player in this upcoming draft as a “franchise forward” in the sense that I think you mean it anyway. I’ve been watching a bit of tape recently on a few of the players who should still be available when it’s our turn to pick, and I honestly think we could end up with as good of a player as anybody else, and there is a better chance with two picks that one of them pans out.

I’m personally thrilled with the way Conny is going about this. I might have been skeptical if he’d started adding high-profile, albeit aging veterans, deluded into thinking the team is closer than they actually are, but I do believe he genuinely made this move with an eye on the future. Frost and Farabee are young players with upside who fill the immediate weak areas in their lineup, and those respective contracts give him a lot of options moving forward. Plus a bit of stasis in the Flames’ lineup will take a bit of pressure off the Wranglers with all the recent uncertainty of not knowing from one day to the next who will or won’t be on the team, so they can just focus on finishing out their stellar season.

I just don't understand how anyone can be mad thinking we will never get a top end center without a #1 overall pick? This isn't a video game, and very high end talent can be found all over drafts. Flames fans should be peeing rainbows realizing we have a ton of up and coming talent and one of the best young goalies in the league. If we miss the WC by one point I'll still be over the moon. This team is gonna be scary good in a few years.

not gonna lie, seeing how happy this fanbase is with regards to their organization is incredible to me. Like you're not supposed to want to throw up at the sight of your own team? incredible stuff. Will be watching some games to see how our boys are doing.

In regards to frost being a "mediocre" piece, look at his analytics, with proper usage (and a team favorable extension) he fits the profile for a really high end 3C on a cup winning team, Farabee saw a lot of success with Claude Giroux and Kevin Hayes in his early years, both Frost and Farabee are very smart with great vision. This trade could put you guys firmly ahead of the Kings in the standings if the players return to form.

I wish Kuzy and Pelts all the best. Both of them are fantastic guys and deserve success. End of the day this is a business and the Flames are trying to get better. This brings in desperately needed depth scoring.

Flames are near last in goals for, usually rock 3 of Hanley, Miromanov, Bean, Pachal, Barrie in our d-core, now we have 4 of them because of the injury to Bahl, yet Wolf has us in a playoff spot.

Conroy tried to tank the season and Wolf said no, Wolf will only get better going forward so it's not like tanking will be any easier, it's hard to get worse in GF than 3rd last.

Only way the Flames tank is if we trade Wolf.

Wolf is great! Therefore we need more Vladar. The guy has Tank Commander written all over him. It's not written in stone that Wolf has to play the majority of the remaining games.

Drafting a franchise player was a pipedream months ago. We needed to pick a direction, and we did.
Kuzmenko had to be traded, not sure how anyone could be disappointed with this trade.

And what did reaction is that exactly? Scramble to make the playoffs year after year and hope we make it out of the first round, if we do?
Been there done that. No thanks. That's a dead end road.
Drafting a franchise player wasn't a pipe dream. At the start of the season most thought the Flames had a legitimate chance of drafting top 10 in 2025 and after trading Andersson drafting top 5 in 2026. Chances of that happening now are getting slimmer by the minute. We got better but we are still far from being legit cup contenders. I think we're going in the wrong direction.

It was obvious right away that we weren't going to finish bottom 10.
I personally thought (like you) that it was a perfect year to suck. That's the past, let's focus on now.
All I know is we better make it in now. I'm more optimistic than I was 24 hours ago.

We were going to be right in the playoff battle all year anyway. With Wolf and guys like scoranato and zary only getting better we weren't going to pick top 5

I think most of us were expecting the same ol’ “not good enough to make the playoffs, but not shitty enough for a decent pick” schtick, and it’s not as though it can’t still be that lol 🤷🏻
