Confirmed with Link: Flames trade Pelletier + Kuzmenko + 2025 2nd, 2028 7th round picks to the Flyers for Frost + Farabee

What a deal. Super stoked on these guys coming in and hope they are hungry with the new opportunity and can be key guys moving forward.

Also, Conroy is a really likeable dude with a solid personality, makes me glad he’s in charge and much better than the stoic bs of Tre. It’s a nice change. Hopefully they can keep adding when it makes sense and find some gems along the way.

Remember, Iggy wasn’t drafted by us but a good move by the front office. If we can do that again we are looking good
the Flames do not have someone remotely close to Joe Nieuwendyk's caliber being dangled as trade bait to get a D+1 11th OA prospect back and the Flames are currently wanting underperforming young players as opposed to recently drafted high end prospects yet to make their NHL deput

Don’t understand this trade like at all from a Flyers perspective.

Frost alone with his age, cap hit, position and expiry could fetch a near first at the deadline himself. Flames have cap to burn, so Farabee is fine, the guy can also score. Imagine he’ll be moving into Posp’s role.

Hate losing Pelts here, but Christ this seems like a knee jerk from Philly.

The best thing you got from Calgary was a second.
Torts.

Rory Kerins probably isn't a happy camper. 4 pts in 5 games just wasn't good enough I guess. The new shiny toys named Farabee and Frost just blocked his return to the Flames lineup.
Two players also went the other way.

I don’t think it’s so much that he’s been blocked as it is that Conny has geared the Flames up a bit more for a bigger playoff push. If the lineup til now has got them into that last WC spot, no reason not to shore up those forward lines a little with a (natural) center and a winger who plays with an edge and can score. Kerins is still only 22, it does nothing to hinder his development for him to chase a chip with the Wranglers, and it’s not like he won’t be the first forward they call up in the event of injury.

I do suppose this takes us out of the Cozens sweepstakes though, and I actually think this worked out even better for us anyways, for what he might have cost us. Sure, it sucks seeing Pelts have to go, but all feely-feels aside, Conny really didn’t have to give up a whole lot for what he got, not just for how specifically it addresses the team needs up front, but for the fact that these two guys are the perfect age to grow with their current group, and their respective contract situations allow for a lot of flexibility moving forward. Worth noting that while Cozens has a 30-goal season, it’s his only season with over 20 whereas Farabee has two 20-goal seasons at the same age.

Honestly, the Flames got 2 guys who should be 50-60 point guys in the next few years. You guys will be the recipient of a high weight(Torts) being lifted off their shoulders.

Kerins was supposedly returned to the Wranglers, not because he wasn't playing good enough but because mgmt felt he wasn't getting enough playing time with the Flames. This trade doesn't solve that problem. It probably makes it worse. I want to see more of Kerins but I doubt that's going to happen now unless I start watching Wrangler games.

He's a late pick project, 22yo and playing his second AHL season. No problem at all having him develop in AHL, at least assuming both Frost and Farabee are better, which they should be.

edit: sorry, misread your post about why he's in the AHL

The stat watching is pretty misleading. Rory Kerins wasn't playing like a 65-point player in his stint. He is probably happy to have had the opportunity and was given clear instructions on what to focus on from here. No need to manufacture outrage.

I mean obviously we need to wait and see, but on paper this is an easy win for the flames. Conroy is the best GM I've seen in my lifetime of being a flames fan. So pumped!

Appreciate Conny sticking to his word.
Even if this is clearly a nod to the team to go for a playoff push, getting a couple younger guys, ex-first rounders is a big deal.

My fear for the start of the season here is that we were veering off the path that was started last year by winning a bunch of games. This trade puts what Conroy's trying to do in perspective. It's help the team get better, younger, more skilled rather than help the team get better at all costs (trading for 30+ year old guys on the back 9 who can help today but mean nothing tomorrow).

Guys like Farabee are good bets for me. 5 million cap, signed until 2028, where he'll only be 28 years old. If he gets back to the guy he was outside of this season, it's 20 goals, 50 points; that's an easy contract to swallow and an even easier contract to flip at the deadline in 2028 if he gets back to where he was.

He'll be given ample time playing with Huberdeau and Naz too. I know it's hopeful thinking, but if he turns out to be the shooter that Jonathan's been looking for... there's more than 20 goal potential there.

Morgan Frost’s 11 goals is enough for 5th on the Flames this year. Pelletier and Kuzmenko together had 8. If Farabee bounces back, we get even better.

This team badly needs more goals and Conroy accomplished that for cheap
